I hadn't planned on putting this out here already, but trail running yesterday with Eric and his father has boosted my interest in a new build, and of course its a chevy. I do have a Blackfoot body coming, but I think I liked Thor's idea with what he did to a chevy body, but thats later..

I have been gathering parts. If I start a thread , I have to finish it, (in my mind) because sometimes I get lazy or just can't make a desicion on what I want to do to a build, till it happens.

So here goes, Parts list so far, and things may change.

Aluminum High Performance Highlift frame and shock towers $10.50 + S\H
Painted black of course. (couldn't decide on tlt or hilift axles)

TLT axles, built to the hilt. $80.00 delivered

Traxxas Sledgehammmer tranny left over from a long time ago.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2789/4140116089_aae71318a7.jpg

2 clod bodies so far, 3 on the way.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2777/4140117965_a430eed4e4.jpg

I spend more time on ebay then I do here. I also have a complete set of leaf springs and shackels and perches, if thats what route I take

Wish me luck

Thanks Teebeehex, I think I can do it, and no, I couldn't pass on those axles. :)

I felt the same way, so I went wacky on ebay. :)

I did some work on the tranny and the body, its not much to look at for the moment, this is where I am at.

I had to make a new motor plate, so the motor would be more centered and, no, I'm not worried about the height. This is all just trial an mostly error. :D

i was going to say that the blue body was cut the way mine was... but its blue....

though the white fender looks as if it could have been off the body too... so hard to tell which part is mine.

I have not glued the cabs together yet, its just taped.

My one question, to the world, or whoever might read this. if I could possibly get some responses,

Does the rear doors look correct at this point or are they too large, too small etc......... ?????

Well, its been fun boys and girls, I may check in once in awhile, but this build will not be finished on this site. Im pretty much done here as far as builds go. Plus I know nobody(cept a couple people) give a darn about these builds of mine. If you want to see the build finished, let me know and I will PM you the forums website address.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to talk to me and comment, plus Im glad you like my TXT. I hope you enjoy it, and I've learned a lesson.

Jeffro, I'm sorry to see you leave the same as blazerbogger. I just started reading your build today and was looking forward to following. My apologies for this behavior. My only wish, is that "someone" would just communicate with me, thats all.

I think Im gonna become a pro golfer, or at least thats what I told julie today. (my GF) :D

I could send my GF over, she's never short for words :p

as for your new project, looks great! the rear door looks the right size (although difficult to tell with the chop where it is), the bit between the rear door and wheel arch is about spot on. the only iffy bit is the angle of the centre pillar (particularly at the front of the rear-door window).

No, thats ok, I had one of those, she could hold a conversation with a wall, if needed..funny as he "double" L sometimes. :D

Thanks teebeehex, the angle of the door frame (center pillar) is bugging me also, I've been looking at it for the past couple of hours. I don't want to cut it all out and rebuild, it will be weaker that way, I think ??? I'll put a pic up shortly, then heading to bed.

I wasn't sure at 1st, but the one thing I remember from my crewcab build, was that the roof lines do not match up, the back cab roof drooped a little. Im not sure of the crew cabs ability to handle a hard knock on the cab, so this one I'm doing a little different.

Its ok, I don't own it, go for it. It was the only way I could think of to bring the roof line up, I can easily hide the slot... Huumm, next clod build.. that should be interesting. Do I already know :)

I have too much stuff, (plus payday is a week away) :( so, since I borrowed the body for my sassy chassis clod (which I need to get back to) that left a bare highlift chassis, so I stole the softer leafs from it for this build

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2711/4137400954_dc10631aa2.jpg

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3430/3796159413_0579360cac.jpg

and Joe will probably yell at me, but I stole the shocks from this

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3379/3647514292_9d27679a3c.jpg

and as a tease, the body is going on here eventually, plus axles ..

Thank you Wyoming, the clod hilux was just kind of a joke at 1st, but it grew on me, so I thought I would share.

Are you leaving the bed open in enclosing the storage ares Suburban?

If I'm reading correctly, :) yes, I'm going to enclose the rear area. I know I made the top for the Blazer, but Its a good thing I took those pics of that part of the build, whewww,

Hopefully, this weekend sometime I will get it done early in the morning, I can't sleep past 4:30 am, and thats perfect, the house is silent, except for me. :D

Also, I am not sure about the rear doors either, that will be major trial and lots of errors, but I want the barn doors.

Sometimes getting up early and doing rock research don't always go as planned.

For starters, when I open the door to my cellar prison, I see this. Not exactly freezing, but I put my stocking cap on to keep my head warm for awhile. (there's a visual)

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2740/4160459212_d129998f0b.jpg

I thought I was watching what I was doing, but "OOPS" happen

Here is the rear of the chassis

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2707/4160459820_b185fdebf2.jpg

and the front

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2608/4159706221_6d3a515027.jpg

Can't get it right all the time :D

Anyway, I straigtened that out. I will need to get the tranny lower or go with something else, but Im not too worried about that at the moment, also, I may leave the blocks on the leafs or they may be gone the next time you see the frame.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2660/4159709451_9672c9e60c_b.jpg

The only thing my mind is seeing clearly at this point is the body, as for the chassis setup, high in the air, or more of a lower stance with slightly oversize tires, maybe the 1.5's...etc.............

I did no measring and I think I got the wheelbase perfect.

After driving at Starved Rock last week, I kinda like the bigger rigs.

I know, 62 ain't bad, but, every since I started working in a climate controlled enviroment for these last 10 years, I've become a light weight to the cold, and it seems like once I hit 50, it really changed for me.

1st a QUESTION, Who knows anything, good or bad about RC4WD's Disrupter Planetary Transmission and T-case

I took a few pics this morning, they're not the best, but they kinda show a little. I think Im going to take the blocks off of the axles, maybe lower the body just a wee bit. Pay no attention to the wheels an tires, Its the only ones I had close at hand, I'm wanting Tomahawks, like my Blazer.

Very nice build! Love 4 door clod bodies. Be keeping an eye on the progress.

I have to say I'm giving myself the "largest tool in the shed" award after looking at your build. I was thinking of doing leafs on TLT's last weekend and could not figure out for the life of me a clean way to get the top holes lined up cleanly with the leaf springs, so I just spent a few hours making trusses and links to 4-link it. It looks to me like you just flipped them and used the bottom holes. GENIUS! :) Never even occured to me.

I wasn't sure about the strength of the way I did it, but I think it will be fine, I did use the finer threaded screws, instead of a tapping screw. You are the 1st that has said anything, even on my Crew cab build. I'm wanting some trusses, and I found some that Pantablo (I believe most of you guys know that name) designed, now I just need to make them out of something.

Thats what I like about this place and others, I learn from others builds and I guess my ideas are being used also, somewhere :)

Just wasn't enough there to do it, I tried to do monical like Colonel Klink, but it just didn't work :D

Anyway I finally got my new frames and had the lens put back in, although by looking at these new pics, you wouldn't think so.

Nice progress

Thank you Wyo, And since I can kinda see again without a headache, I did a little work tonite. Its still really sloppy, but hey, About 20 or 30 layers of paint later, who knows where the boo boo's are. :yikes:

Anyway, see what you guys think, and use your imagination, at least try to pretend it looks like a suburban, kinda, sorta, maybe :p

Sometimes I just have to put some paint on it, so I can see it better, Once you get all those cut lines and and other distractions, I lose the vision for a bit, so adding some color helps to regain what I want to see. :)

Thanks Blazer :) Its taken some time to get this far, but its going to be well worth it. I've learned a few things since the Crew Cab. I may have to build a new one, but thats later.

This truck will be able to take on Starved Rock State Park, whereas I think the CrewCab would come apart.

The doors have moved to the back burner for now, but I'm still thinking about that one. I have an idea, but It was time to move to another area.

I have to be able to steer.. Its a really close fit, but it spins freely, but I think I better make a little more room. I used a TLT axle servo mount to hold the servo

Thanks guys, I think I may have leveled it a little, and I think thats because of the extra weight in the rear, I think I'm gonna have to put the springs back in the shocks, but I still want the body down a few more mm's on the chassis.

Teebeehex, its great to hear from ya, I'm finally (afraid to say it) feeling better.

What I have worked on is time consuming, but really doesn't show much progress, this part of building just kills me, I can think of all kinds of loose ends to work on. I wanted to add a little dimension to the interior of the doors. They still need touched up and what not, but most of it you will never see or barely see, so its perfect, it will give me that optical illusion I am looking for.

I like the bar too. not over the top, and not toyish. I must say.... im jealous of that stack of clod bodies. have too many??? ill take one off your hands. looks like you should be spring cleaning anyway. LOL (j.k...... about the cleaning, not the bodies; LOL)

Later Jeffro :)

Thanks guys, for the comments, but I'm easily persuaded and I decided to try it without the bar in front.

The truck is basically done, if the weather is somewhat decent here this weekend, I hope to get it out for better pics.

Its a runner, driver, whatever you want to call it, but its really cool looking driving around in my basement. I don't like indoor pics but, and yes its got defects. :)

Jeffro, it's going to need plates on it before you take it out on the roads / trails ;)

This build has turned out great. The rear doors are a treat and the interior is a real good touch. I agree on the push bar, it adds a little something to the front.

Thank you Joe, I told Pantablo that he had to talk to you, I told him you were gonna BAN me if I didn't put it back on :D

I finally remembered what that bar was from, its from Prolines scale bumper they sell, and somewhere on my bench, there should be an alternantive bar, maybe I will try it out if I can find it.

Thank you teebeehex, its good to hear from you. I'm getting ready to order the plates, I just don't know what I want on them, it seems like I use my nickname on everything even my 1:1 truck and car.

I wish I would have been more patient with the rear doors, but I'm tired of breaking the hinges and redoing them, its happened about 4 or 5 times, so I'm not touching the doors anymore. :)

And if anybody is curious here it is with its top off, I still have to do a front body mount, but that should be easy

That's way too cool! I think the interior turned out perfectly. How's the gearing on the transmission? It isn't too low? You did a good job on this one.

Thank you Erik, I don't know the tooth count on the pinion at the moment. It could go up a tooth or 2, but it does very well, at least in todays adventure, which was nothing too daring.

Thanks Guys, I've been absent for awhile. :) But I've still been building an driving rc trucks, and breaking them.

I've spent most of the day working on the CrewCab and the Suburban. I had the CC out yesterday, so today I worked on the Burb and took it for a neighborhood cruise

Since I had used an old tranny from 1990, the yoke joint (box joint according to the Company) it shattered the 1st time I got my front tire caught in a crevice

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4058/4433118114_147f258e66_o.jpg

and here is the newer one, we'll see how how long it holds up

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4003/4432343763_9489dc061e_o.jpg

I also bought new shoes for the Burban

After made my own yoke joint, I took it for a test drive close by and everything held up so far.
