Hey, Guys and Girls.
I have just purchased my very first electric r/c car, a tamiya tundra. after running nitro stuff (which i am still very much into) i figured on the down time, when i have broken something bashing or whatever, i'd like to have something else to keep me amused.
basically new to anything electric, motors/esc's/ and all of that just confuses me. what kind of set-ups are working for you all here? don't want to spend a lot, and will consider a motor/esc combo other than stock.
i noticed there is a Novak 55t/rooster crawler esc combo for a decent price, any good for this sort of truck?
P.S. Excuse the newbness...
Cheers, Chris.

Congratulations on your new truck you will definetly have a blast with it.
Yes, the novak rooster with the 55 turn motor is alot of bang for your buck. If you want to run your truck in water and have it be waterproof, Traxxas makes waterproof escs and servos. The novak rooster crawler esc and 55 turn motor offers:

Novak is taking the pain out of mixing and matching parts by combining two great products in one, ready-to-drive combo package. Novak is now offering a 55-turn brushed motor – the Fifty-Five Crawler (#3555) – to harmonize with Novak’s popular brushed ESC – the Rooster Crawler Edition (#1841). The Fifty-Five Brushed Crawler is ideal for crawling because of its precise movement control, and its high-turn count makes for exceptional torque and long-run times. The motor is also completely rebuildable with an easily removable endbell and replaceable brushes, making maintenance a snap. In addition, Novak is pre-installing three motor capacitors to simplify the installation process, so users can be crawling in no time.

Novak also offers the 45 turn motor, has a decent blend of torque and wheel speed. but your running a 3 speed, so that shouldnt be a problem.

Great Build pics JAnderson, shall come in very handy when the time comes to assemble. i have ordered the Novak ESC And 55T motor, should be here over the next few days, along with the bearing kit. picked up the futaba attack radio and servo combo today, i will see how the standard type servo's go, as i dont want to fork out for new ones just yet. i think i will be doing the 4 link conversion sometime down the track, but for now i am just keen to get building.
BTW i love your colour choice, it really looks fantastic.

Thanks Chris,

I would do the steering mod you see on my build, you will get the most out of the servo you have with it!

Yeah, i'll have to take a good look when i get closer to that part of the build, at the moment i'm waiting on a few parts, so limited to what i can do.but definitely worth considering at least. haha, thanks.

so, far its been pretty straight forward, i got all the parts i was waiting on, inc. full bearing kit, Novak Fifty Five, and a Novak Rooster ESC, so far i've got the g/box assembled, chassis, diffs, and suspension (inc. shocks) i'm about to wonder off to the shed to get started on some body work and paint, hopefully it should come up as well as i hope it will. (panel beater by trade so if it doesn't, then shame on me. lol)

About time more Aussies got on here!! Welcome.

Another Tundy on the street, sweet. The 4 link is the way to go. I run a Junfac kit in mine and it runs a **** of alot better.

Just a little tip, dont run all the leaf springs when building the kit. the suspention wont move at all.

Just a pity your not up here in Townsville! lol..

Cheers,
Rob

Just some idea's for you to see close up. Junfac is an evil web site.... So many good things all in one place! lol.....

Yeah, the junfac 4-link will deifinitely be coming, i fitted all the springs, and yeah there is zero movement in it, but even just running the main spring i find, it is still too stiff. i doubt i'll be leaving it stock for long at all. consider the 4-link ordered. lol
also, those g-made shocks have been out of stock for a while, can't seem to find them anywhere. but ah well, i'll get some in time i suppose.
finished painting the body today, and considering it was a spray can job, it came up really nicely.

Here you go....

http://www.gmade.net/bbs/zboard.php?id=shock&page=1&sn1=&divpage=1&sn=off&ss=on&sc=on&select_arrange=headnum&desc=asc&no=8

They are $10 more than on the Junfac site.

I have the black ones fitted on the wifes and the red on mine. I just ordered a set of those new droop ones in black for my trail finder jeep.

Good to see your finishing the kit. All mine have been sprayed with a rattle can. I just use a number of clear coats to make it look pridier...:D

Tho the tundra body has been through the wars, I have a new one here that I should paint up one day.

Another shack option you could look at is these:

http://www.rcmart.com/catalog/rc-damper-yeah-racing-90mm-buggybigfoot-2pcs-dp1006ti-p-25330.html

I bought these for a mates F350 I fitted out with a 4link kit. Cost me $34.10 us sent to my door.

They are a good shock as the kit comes with all diffrent stuff for setting them up. My only complaint about the junfac shocks is you cant buy diffrent rate coils for em. I ended up using Losi 1/10 buggy coils. Mine are white on the front and pink on the rear. I have since painted em black. Not that I didnt like the pink at all.....:p

Just a tip when ordering thae kit. Get the full 4link combo kit as it has the alloy mounts for the diff. When I first got the wifes one the hadn't been made yet. The plastic parts they tell you to use brake real easy.
