Hello all, I am a big fan of expedition vehicles, the big huge trucks in the paris dakar rally and the ones people live in that travel around the world. A couple days ago i thought of making one. And im putting my thoughts into action. Im in Mexico right now so for Christmas they were selling toy plastic trucks, ones like dump trucks and everything. I found one that had a lot of potential, so im gonna get it. I plan on making one like this:
1097 1098 1099
The truck cab i found looks mostly like the last one. I will make the back out of some thin plywood, ill keep you posted :D

Well I got an unpleasent suprise this morning, I left my cr-01 outside on my workbench (stupidest thing ever NEVER gonna do it again:banplease:) and it rained. not rained, downpoured. Luckily my parents (Halleluya) and got it for me before too much damage had happened. Luckily, everything worked fine, and ill keep this build going. WHOOOEEEFFFF!!!!!:common001:

That depends on tools you have and expense want to incuur, I would recomend doing a mockup in cardboard and tape or similar to get rough look first. Styrene is great and cheap way to build very detailed boxes, campers etc. But other materials like alloy are more durable. I would try to find an existing box and modify it.

Nothing wrong with wood, I love wood and it is suprisingly strong, especially you get screws or Gorilla glue to bond it. It is also easy to work into form you want.

Im using little pieces of wood to bong it, pretty thick and not flat like the plywood. The on the corners of the plywood i put screws into it from 2 sides, complicated, but ill put pics up soon.

Heres the back of the exped: 1103 1104 1105
Ill get some more pics up, the back stock shock thing isnt working too well, with all the weight of the plywood on it, so i put some traxxas shocks on it. Works much better, alot more stable.

I applaud the fact you are having a go at fabrication. It is a unique vehicle. Wood is not a very good material for RC though because of it's weight, but if it's all you have, then give it a whirl. Everyone here has traveled a similar path. I started building RC kits at 13 years old and I know how it is. This hobby is about fun. :) Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.

cool build go for it can't wait for the interor shot's, one last detail you need pipe stacks that would make it even more scale

If anyone has ANY scale ideas that i can make, because i cant buy any lets say proline roof racks or lights to it, because I cant buy anything down here. What a green alien you have there, LOL
I think you need to heat him up and bend his legs. he looks like he had too much coffee and does not want to stay seated.

Placing his legs in boiling water might be worth a try. Whatever you do, use caution and please be careful.
