I am dying to get the F-350 three-speed so i called my local HS today. The guy told me that you are not going to be happy with that truck because it is not durable enough to be considered an RC??? The guy said that they look good but all that you have is a 1/10 scale plastic model. Can i please get some feed back, opinions, whatever you have before i spend big money to buy a $25.00 plastic model (his words)

Sad that they put it that way.

Please remember there are different types of crawlers out there.

1.9
2.2

hard body
lexan

Comp
Scale

and so on

A lot of people like the hard body, as it is very realistic and the body rubs against rocks rather then flexes like lexan (but you will scratch it)

Highlifts are 1.9 hardbody scale crawlers.

So if you are looking for a vehicle that you can roll down a hill with no real damage a lexan would be better.

if you are looking for a realistic scale crawler a 3speed would be better. Please remember one of the best parts of this hobby is building them. So you can build a highlift so that it has

2.2 tires
single speed tranny
lexan body
4 link suspension

Then it is no longer (as the store said plastic model). I enjoy building and the realism of hard body's. lexan is fun as well, and there is no law I heard of that you can not have both. if there is I'm going to jail.

The store should have asked what you wanted to use it for and suited there answer on the info you game them.

Also the 3 speed is fun! Low gear for power - High gear to hot pursuit!

Welcome to the site and keep us updated to your purchase.

Ask plenty of questions to us or the store to make a better purchase! :Tamiya1:

I know, the highlift was made for fun, and out of the highest quality parts. He has a problem.

The reason that i want this truck is not for a pure crawler truck. I thought that it looked way cool with all the detail and you can run it in the living room and such. I own an E-Maxx and there is no way that i could run that truck indoors it is too big and too fast; however it is not very scale.
If i was a Dodge, Land Cruiser etc. fan will other bodies fit this truck without a lot of modifying? Thanks for the help guys!

Dodge yes, land cruiser would be a bit too short

Well, in a way I suppose it's good as he is actually trying to steer you towards what he thinks will make you happy - most shops will just sell you whatever to make the sale. Having said that, his description is not at all accurate, and could certainly be better explained - JAnderson put it far better, and that's the advice you should have gotten from your shop.

The Hi-lift is a very capable machine, plenty durable and far more realisic than anything else on the market. No idea what he was feeding you. You can certainly run it in the living room, outdoors, and anywhere inbetween.

Well, for starters, Tamiya kits are just plain fun to build. Not Durable??? Not considered an RC??? Pure baloney.

Not going to speculate what is rattling around in homie's head but, if you do decide to buy an RC, save yourself some time and money.

I got the F350, Hilux,Tundra High Lifts. Each of these trucks are a blast to drive. Plug-in the Tamiya MFC-02 and you got the ultimate show truck with music, lights, sounds, and vibration.

I also got the Hilux Mountaineer, Hilux Bruiser, Hilux 4x4, and the Blazing Blazer, and the F350 Juggernaut2. They all pack tons of fun and these Tamiya trucks are simply the finest.

I agree, that guy has something against the Highlifts. I love all mine, because you can do so much to them. Someone needs to educate the LHS

High-Lifts are pretty neat little vehicles. 3-speeds, shift on-the-fly, lockable diffs, leaf springs, solid axles... who else makes 'em like that??? Nobody.

And the aftermarket parts, why are there so many parts for High-Lifts if they are not popular???

Here is my two-cents about this one....

That LHS guy needs to get his head out of his ass, If i ever told a customer that when I worked at my LHS, I wouldn't have any more customers, or regulars. Dumb ass.

The highlift trucks are awsome, there are too many options and modifications to list. The truck was one of the smartest things tamiya did since the bruiser is the 1980's. You even still see these trucks, but they do cost more to collect and build. However, that aside these maybe more $$$ than the average r/c, BUT the return and fun factor is very great. People will have these trucks for years, and mark my words.... we won't forget about the high-light series. Toyota, or Ford.

Get a high lift, build it and see for yourself. (if you dont like it, someone will take off your hands.) If you like tinkering and building something from parts, then trust me.... when you open that high lift box and start going through the bags of parts and screws.... you will have chill down your back and you will feel 8 years old again. You won't want to wait to get the tires on. LOL.

I would be done with that shop, those kind don't last long. They have to understand that there are so many different segments of RC, and its better to work with everyone's needs, if possible, instead of being stuck on whatever it is he wanted to sell you.

As far as 3 SPD Tamiya trucks, I think they Rock

My 1st was the F-350

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3547/3687745663_76c6843589.jpg

My 2nd, Toyota Highlift

My 3rd, Toyota Tundra

And the one thing about those lovely hard bodies, you can change them up a bit. Compliments of Tamiya's Clod Buster Chevy body.

Tamiya RC can be rough and tough and tumble, but it can also become a work of art, even if you are the only one that thinks so. :)

All RC stuff has their place in the RC world, but, we all like or love different aspects, you are the boss of that world, you tell them what you want.....;)

( I left out a couple, but they're not 3 spd's, but still have the Tamiya heartbeat inside)

None of the three shops around here carry Tamiya either anymore. Frustrating. In fact, I think I am in a scaler/crawler vaccuum here - no one carries scaler or crawler parts really either. Everyone is into dime a dozen 1/8 buggies/truggies and nitro monsters. :(

I started crawling in early 2004 and people used to laugh at me. By 2006 there was enough custom built rigs to get some attention. When I lived in Jersey people started to realize their popularity. Now it's like the hottest thing. I met a Tamiya distributer in Tallahasee, Florida about a year ago at the Hobby Town USA and talked breifly with him as he was picking up an un-sold RTR CR-01. Seems most hobby shops steer their customers away from Tamiya in general. Except for the paint. They will readilly admit that Tamiya paints are the best and then try to hide the Tamiya kits behind a bunch of other stuff. I don't even go to the LHS anymore. It's their loss. I spend alot of money on RC stuff...
