I have been toying with this idea for awhile, I'm sure someone has already done it, but I want to try my hand. (Its all your fault OldschoolRc :) )

I know, I know, there's thousands of toyota highlift 3-spds out there.

Check this out and see what you guys think.

You are right about the frame. The more I look at it, I'm pretty sure I can do it. Right now, what you see, is all I have. I took Oldschools advice and switched up for abit. I'm glad you like it. I do have to say its a back burner project for now. I need to find some shackles, I have perches and leaf springs.. Anyway, Thanks for the warm welcome Waterboy :)

Lol - I'm such a bad influence. I tend to project hop all over the place, it's a miracle when I actually finish anything. I've got about 6 different builds going right now.

Looks nice! Good luck with that tranny....love the three-speeds, but they are huge. Tough to get them under the hood of anything. I have a 1/8 JK body (like your yellow one) and i'm looking at a semi version 3 speed and a divorced t-case, and have it all tucked up under the body. Have to figure something out though, really doesn't fit in there very well.

Those motorcycle are old vintage cox models. They run on tiny cox engines. Kinda like those planes with the string that go in circles. This go back into the 70's. Nice vintage stuff to have. Can't find stuff like that anymore. Simple tech. back then, boy have we advanced. :)

Nice Jeffro, keep up the good work.... i'm keeping my eye on this one.

Thanks, I'm gonna give it one heck of a shot. It will be slow going, I need some OEM shackles from a Tamiya kit. And some more brain cells, ( I must be nuts). :)

Not a problem OS RC, it tends to keep things fresh I think. I like your idea on the semi trans and T-case, better get a big shoehorn for that jeep. (What frame you using ???)
Or you could unload that body on ebay for hundreds of dollars.

No problem on the threadjack, RC Modz is correct, those are Cox .049 Trikes. I got one from Santa Claus when I was about 12 or so. Long story, I threw it away a long time ago. I found these on ebay, You can still find one now and then. These have been well loved, and will stay just like they are, (memories) :)

No new updates?
I'm waiting.

Yes Sir, I'm trying :) Not really a whole lot to show, I'm still hung up on my burb, but..

As oldschoolrc said, that tranny is big, so to try and make a little more space available, I repositioned those 2 lower tube braces, and ground off those 2 lower tabs, I gained about 5\16's of an inch, Every little bit on this build will count. Im also using home made shackles till I can get some bought or something.

Plus, the way that frame is shaped, I think I can get by with the normal T-case thats built in, and still have good clearance, but if not, well, I'll do something different..

Hmmm...Couple more ideas to give you room. RC4WD makes a nice clocked t-case for that tranny, rotates the output somewhat buying you some space. The semi tranny is a little lower overall - obviously, it doesn't have the t-case on the back, but the motor mounts differently as well - the spur is inside the case and the motor hangs out the front. it's a little longer overall, but more compact vertically and might be more workable as well. I can get pics of both if needed for comparison, I have one of each sitting on my workbench waiting for a home. :)

I've been eyeballin that clocked T-case on RC4WD for awhile, but I have to wait a bit, ebay has drained my finances once again, but it sure was fun doing it. :D

It just so happens that my crew cab has the semi 3-spd in it, and I was thinkin of buying the parts again to make another one. Scale4x4 has a parts list for it. Thanks for thinking of me though.

I haven't done anything else to it, just a few mock up pics. See what ya think

Now that Im almost done with the Burb, my sight has come back to this one. I have no updates other then to say I have ordered the clocked tranny case plate thingy from RC4WD and a semi 3 -spd from ebay. One way or the other this will work.

If I end up using the semi 3 spd, the clocked tranny plate will go on the Blazer. So we shall see what happens, but for now, I'm waiting on the mailman. :)

edit = I have also had to order other parts for the yota body because I have been borrowing from it. It sorta looks really bare at the moment

Bolting the tranny in was the easy part, the servo's are just sitting there, but thats where they will live eventually.

My other set of shocks showed up today, they are 90 mm, and I can live with that. So later I hope to get some more put together on this. I want all my rides drivable, so that when you come over to seem me, you can test them out. :)

Good job Jeff. That tranny looks almost a natural fit for that frame. I'm going to assume the fit is pretty close and you've just used a couple of 'L' brackets to mount it(?)

I had been eyeing off one of these A*ial frames for a similar project, but it's not a Tamiya ;)

Does Tamiya make any driveshafts that are shorter then the high lift front driveshafts ???

Ahh...tubework. I'm horrible at brazing too, plus I'm not comfy with using mapp gas in my basement workshop. So I work around it....thowing a couple of ideas out:

Try working with brass tubing if you haven't in the past. Far easier to work with imo, you can solder it or use a small torch. Not quite as strong certainly, but for non structural stuff, should be plenty strong. I use a standard tubing bender and a dremel to fishmouth the edges. The rear cage of my SC truck is all brasswork and has survived a ton of rollovers so far.
http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/rr84/dschlegel/monster%20mo/SlashX/110509020.jpg

Also, plain styrene rod works well from a looks standpoint and is super easy to work with. use a lighter to head it up to bend it, and cut and shape with a dremel or knife. This one is screwed together in certain spots for strength, glued in others. it's NOT coming apart. Just go back and fill and sand the holes down for a seamless look.

Thank you That guy (kevin), And I didn't think I was informative enough. Unless I build something that is really shoddy work, that I don't want anybody to see, I try to show or tell what I've done, so that maybe it gives someone else an idea of what to do or where to start.

And to Joe, Mcfig, teebeehex, Icechilly and xtx671, Thank you all for those great comments, I had kinda left this thread alone, not many like it or something. That maybe because of I haven't put any tubework on it, nor will I..

Hi Kevin, I like the look of the frame, and it should hold up pretty good. As of yet the truck is just lounging on the top shelf behind my Bruiser. I finally got a radio for it, but I've just been too wrapped up in the van build to get it installed. Soon, very soon though.

@ Andrew (Waterboy) (and I finally saw the thread on why you go by waterboy, those are some great catches Andrew), you are right, I need to finish it. If I remember, I mostly just need a radio for it, I bought the wrong taxxas pistol radio awhile back.

I don't know what to say , Thank you, its always been my intent on here to try an inform you guys of what I'm doing. This was the 1st forum I ever joined, and Thanks to Joe and especially Arco (Jay), and watching how Wyoming and a lot of these other guys interacted with each other, taught me how to tell a story, or at least try and to be civil to everyone (and I'm sure I have failed at times) :) (hope that makes sense)

As for the truck, its on the list with the YJ and the Tundra plus etc .......
