hello everybody, I have been saving some mula and am looking into a Tamiya Subaru Car (my second car halleliyah!!! :willy_nilly: ) And I am wondering which one to get. I know theres many different subarus Tamiya makes, some for drifting, some for rally, and such. Do you know what the differences are between them, and which one is good for some off-road driving? Id like it to be a rally car, as i will take it on some dirt roads, mabye some light jumps too. Thanks!;)

The TT-01 chassis is an on-road chassis. By the time you upgrade to ball bearings and rally tires you could have just bought #58417 or #58430 and had the performance benefits of the DF03 RA's 4WD buggy evolved design with a longer stroke suspension IMO.

The TT01 can run rally, but it takes some work. The DF03RA's look awesome, never had one but I had a Dark Impact and the drivetrain is nice amd smooth.
Any shaft driven car really can be a "rally" car, only difference is a body, proper tires and suspension. I've run a TL01 Rally (awesome, the bathtub design lends itself well,) TA02, TB02 and possibly converting over a TT. Most kits, just remove the spacers from the oil shocks to get the extra suspension travel and bolt on the rally block tires. Converted over my TL and it ran very well.
I'm very much thinking of adding a DF03RA to the collection, car looks fantastic.
Then you just need to build a trailer for your trucks so you can haul around your rally car.. :)

By the time I upgraded my TT-01, it didn't come close to the price of a #58417 or #58430/
But to each there own I guess. I bought the TT-01 because of the gear diff's, rather than the silly ball diffs. I know all about ball diff's and bevel gear diff's. I know for example that ball diff's are much smoother, but if you build a gear diff right, it too can be smooth and reliable. The other major reason I didn't go for the ball diff design is because ball diff's slip after a while and can become worn out quickly and loosen off while driving, (thats a pain) and then you have to take the car a part to re-do the diff's. A lot of my friends in the hobby understand what I mean, and other stick to there ball diff's. Its whatever you think you might like more. I like my bevel gear diff's because Ball diff's increase your wrench time on the car. Ball diff's are effective, but are more maintenance.
Oldschool siad it right "he TT01 can run rally, but it takes some work. " and "Any shaft driven car really can be a "rally" car, only difference is a body, proper tires and suspension."
The DF03 chassis looks great, and performs but not with out a fair bit of maintenance. You can thank the high sales is parts for the dark impact for that.
Waterboy, the TT-01 is an on-road car, but I've made my rally capable and brushless.
One more side note, shaft driven rally cars are better. 19 years in the hobby, and I'm surprised that I still see belt drive systems for dirt. (carpet ok) but I sold a lot of parts for off road rally cars that had belt driven.
Any touring car can look fantastic, it's all about the body and tires. Cause that's all you see at first.
I love Tamiya, I do... I have for a long time and 80% of my collection is Tamiya, but like any company they to have there lemons that maybe could have been thought through more. Just saying.

Rally cars must be shaft drive..belts are a no-no in the dirt. I've seen the sealed designs, but just not a fan of belt drive offroad.
How about the new Mitsubishi Lancer on the DF01 chassis? looks awesome, and very capable as a rally.
