The GPM steering kit is a nice upgrade for the XC/CC chassis. Though when assembling it, it does not come with directions and takes a litte figuring out....been through 3 of these and thought'd I'd post a basic walkthrough with some tips and tricks.

Start out with a teardown. Fastest way to get in there is to remove the 5 screws on the skid, take out the 2 holding the suspension arm arm together, pull apart the arm and then flip the skid over to the side. Remove the steering links from the bellcranks and then remove the cranks.

Starting on the top, transfer the ball to the new steering upright. Press one of the bearings into the white bushing and then put that in the hole where the old steering draglink used to be. Put in the new shaft and reconnect to the servo.

Assemble the steering assembly as shown. Note the flanged edges of the draglink go against the bellcranks, or flanged side down in this pic.

Put the bearings in the other side of the bellcranks, put in the bushings flanged side out, and bolt it to the chassis. I mounted with the longer screw in the plastic side and the shorter screw on the steering shaft. Threadlocked all metal to metal connections. Remount the ball links, steering links and reassemble.

Noticed with this one, the steering shaft is slightly undersized compared to the bearings in the chassis and I have a little slop.. :( though the other ones I have are are fine. Maybe a fluke?

In addition to this, a great set-up is to add an aluminum servo horn and aluminum steering blocks - makes the steering much more responsive and plenty durable for either trailing, bashing or crawling.

Hope this helps!

I think the first production run had something wrong that GPM later changed.

Fixed it..wrapped a small slice of aluminum foil carefully and tightly around the shaft where the bearings sit and put it back in. Took up all the slack, and don't think it's going to back out. Time will tell!
