Ok so i blew up a few LEDs yesterday! and i mean Popped them :)
came offf the RC4WD light box. but hooked them up to battery with out control box and they blew on me??? So i figured they must of been like 3 volt leds?

So question is -

can i use 12 volt LEDs off 6 volt?
will they be dim because under powered?
Or should i buy 6 volt LEDS

thanks Pjuana

You need to solder a limiting resistor to the positive side of your 3v LEDs for them to work on 6volts.

Very nice work on the CR01, wish I could paint mine like that. The details are
great and also the wheels. The LED's there, are they connected in series?
I used a resistor in each LED's to lower the voltage and connect it in parallel
to the power supply. :)

Hi again, no sir my lights gets its power directly from the ESC receiver connector if you
are using a TEU-101BK so that the lights turns on when I turn on the switch of the ESC.
I can also connect it parallel to the male deans connector of the ESC so that it will turn
on when I connect the battery if I do not supply an individual switch for the lights. :)

LED's turns on when the ESC switch is turned on

Note:
Each LED has a resistor connected and wrap inside the shrink tube to lower
the voltage so that the LED's will not get busted. The LED's are all connected
in parallel. :D

Thanks for showing your different light set-ups. Your's are very neatly done, using resistors, and proper connectors, to make your LED's plug into the main battery pack as a power source. The resistors are an important component used to lower the voltage, so the LED's will not burn out.
Nice work.:thumb:

well blew up the 3 volt ones so now i want to buy new ones! and can get a bundle of 100 5mm 12volt ones for 9 instead of 10 or 12 for some tamiya ones hehe!
so can i use 12 volt ones? will they be dim on 6 volts?

A lot of LEDs can be run on a higher current than what their continuous forward current is rated as, effectively making the LEDs brighter. However, this requires that the current be pulsed, or the LEDs will be killed. Many LEDs have spec info that tells their peak forward current and size of pulse they can handle.

I would have to say the easiest solution for only a few LEDs is to just use resistors.:p

I just ordered headlights, taillights & a proline light bar with 5 led's from rc lighthouse on ebay & I'm still confused on how to wire them, I ordered a push button switch for the head/tail lights & one for the light bar. I hope to power all from the receiver & just mount the switches to the top of the body behind the roof rack. I just ordered a new body, new wheels & tires, a roof rack & the lights, next is the bent lower suspension arms & the blue integy suspension arms for the uppers. I just got my land cruiser recently & I love it!
