FM vs. AM?

Is an FM radio noticably different than AM? I have a 27AM. I have read that FM is less suseptable to interferance. I live in a rural area so I don't get interferance from other RC models but don't know what else is floatin' around out there that I can't see.

Would you notice any difference going from a similar radio in AM to FM?

For example, a Futaba 4GWD or 4VWD to 4EXA.
