Here is a crawler i recently built using mostly home made crawler parts .It has a home build chassis and TLT axels...a stampede tranny, brushless out runner motor, home made tranny mount, and hand built servo mounts as well, but also has tons of alloy goodies on it also..here are the pictures..

Okay as you noticed or may not have but i have no drive shafts for this thing yet....everything i found was just either to short or to long..so i had to fab up some and this is what i came up with...
I bought some of these shafts from the LHS

But and they werent long enough..so using the 2 outside slide pieces...they were almost perfect...so i then i took one of the pieces that slides inside the shaft and cut the universal end off of it. Slid that piece inside one of the other outside peices and glued it so it would slide around...slid the other end on..and bingo..had a real nice long shaft the would slide when the suspension articulated...woohoo..also in stead of using the plastic universals that came with the set up i bought some alloy one with grub screws to tighten on to the out put shafts on both the tranny and the diffs.

Picutre of the NEW alloy pieces used installed.....

2 pictures of the shafts with the suspension flat and with it extend...so i have TONS of play now...

i well get to test it out. Hopefully these shafts wont tear apart..lol

I read a post on here about the home built Gekko crawler so i figured i better share this little rig as well.

Home built is always fun! Nice job extending the drive shafts! Hopefully it will stand up well. If you are worried about the glue not holding the piece inside the shaft, you can always drill a hole and put a pin though them.

Again nice piece of custom work. I always like seeing what people come up with for homemade components! :thumb:

Thanks for the advice on the shafts i will most likely have to do that because that motor sure has a lot of torque and i am sure the shafts will need some reinforcements. The reason i did this was all my buddies had some sort of 2.2 crawlers and all i had was those 2 super's and my scale trucks i wanted to try some thing smaller, the tranny mount was made out of a black kitchen cutting board from costco(no not my wifes out of the kitchen lol) plus i used turnbuckles from my parts bin of savage parts..the body was an old toy of the kids so i used it just basically to proctect the electroncs and stuff. At least now i can say i have a 2.2 crawler and not just scale trucks which i hope to sway some of these guys to build now.

Great job on this Joe, I really enjoy looking at rigs with lots of homemade and modded parts the best, I always see somthing clever to use or learn from

Nice indeed! I don't get the Heinz 57 reference though? Expected a red rig! :)

LOL, i called it Heinz 57 because it was made with tons of different parts from rc parts to kitchen utensiels, but i do also understand why you thought it would be red as well.

Thanks guys!!!!
