View Full Version : CVD drive shaft - MIP or Junfac?

Anyone have experience with either or both?
I'm working on a project and noticed the traditional drive shaft is starting to feel notchy or clunky. If I decrease the angle by lowering the truck, it goes away.
I figured that a CVD style drive shaft should give me a little more angle and still be smooth.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Never tried Junfac's, but MIP's are pretty much as top notch as it gets. Have a few sets on some other trucks, and very smooth and strong.
On a side note, if youlre shafts are too vertical, they will bind/notch as they turn. You should be able to change the pinion angle by messing with the links to get the axle output to point up a bit, and they may eliminate the issue. Would save some cash! Might be worth a try, cvd's can be pricey.

Thanks OSRC,
I've tried changing the pinion angle up without much difference in the notchy feeling. It goes away if I lower the truck or extend the wheelbase out. I've taken a truck with 11.5" wheelbase and made it 10" to fit a new body on it. Ride height is the same but obviously the drive shaft angles change.
I like the MIP, but it's almost 2x the price of the Junfac. Are there other brands?

I have a hmmmm... 12+ year old set of MIP's in my XC-01 and they still work great.

Thanks Flowmastered, That proves the MIPs will last.

There are all kinds of other brands - 3Racing, RC4WD, etc...depends on how much you want to spend. MIP's are top notch, and you do pay for the quality.
What kind of shafts are you running at the moment? Some can 'swing' more than others.

I've tried shortened Axial and shortened Traxxas, both traditional u-joints. I would try my Highlift shafts but they are a touch too long, and I don't want to shorten them, since they work perfectly on my Highlift.
I'm assuming that the CVD style shaft would give me more "swing", but I could be wrong. Are the 3Racing and RC4WD shafts CVD style?

Found a combination that worked!
I used the Traxxas drive shaft and u-joint (the metal piece in the photo) with an Axial yoke.

For some reason the Traxxas yoke would bind with the Traxxas u-joint:confused:. And the Axial u-joint would bind with the Axial yoke:confused:.
Hopefully this will help someone else if they experience the same problem.
Thanks everyone for your help and patience!
