I'm slowly accumulating things for my Hilux build. This will be a scale trail truck, i.e. I don't plan to do hard core crawling with it. That said, I don't want to cut corners.

What kind of specs should I be looking at as far as the shifting and stearing servo? I was looking at the Hitec HS-5645MG for both. Overkill? Underkill? Any thoughts.

I recently put a Hobbico CS-170 on one of my crawlers and it's pretty wicked but again, maybe overkill on a highlift that I don't intend to crawl with.

I have no experience with high lift/shifting. What do you guys think?

The 5645MG is a perfect steering servo choice for a hilux (I have apx 10 of these myself in various trucks) but for shifting you need nothing more than a Basic standard servo like a Futaba S3003 or S3004, more powerful servos will work fine of course but very little power is required to move the linkage rod. If you use multiple hi torque servos you will want an external BEC also.

I have the standard Futaba servos that came with my Attack 4VWD. I will use those, they are one of the two you mentioned, can't remember at the moment. Thanks, that should save me a couple of bucks.

Yes, :agree: with Wyoming, a standard Futaba S3003 or S3004 will work just fine in a High-Lift for shifting the 3-speed transmission. I also have a Hi-tec 5645MG in one of my trucks and it is good servo for the price, but be advised that only 2 of the 3 gears inside are metal, along with a 3rd gear that is made of plastic... http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXVE87&P=Z

Yes, running multiple high-torque servos can be taxing on most ESC's integrated BECs and that will cause an ESC to run hot. On my Wreckluse, I by-passed the BEC on my Tekin FXR and ran an external adjustabe CCBEC that provides power to the 8 channel 2.4ghz receiver and 2 high-torque digital servos directly from the vehicles main battery pack. It has proven to be very reliable for me and it has been a glitch-free, hassle-free set-up since the day I wired it up.

Based on the responses from you and Seth, I am leaning towards the stock futaba servo for shifting, the HiTec for steering, stock motor with a MFC-02. My first two trucks were crawlers, both have a single high tourque servos for steering and Rooster Crawler ESCs which handle the servos fine.

I've focused on the other features of the MFC-02 & only know that I don't need an ESC if I go with the MFC-02. How will the MFC-02 handle the high tourqe servo?
