Oh boy, what did I buy this time!? I bought this on a whim from a guy on RCCrawler. It's almost complete with the exception of the body and one two-piece rim. I can't decide whether I want to do a restoration, or a preservation. First, I have to rebuild it and figure out where everything goes. If anyone has one of these OG stepside bodies or two-piece rims, I'd be interested in buying them.

Nice box of bits you have there. Those 'whim' things are pretty dangerous, I have found. Good luck finding the missing parts, I am looking forward to your work on this.

I'm a little bummed that it was missing one of the two-piece rims. I've contacted a few people about the missing parts, but nobody is replying to my inquiries. I was contacted by a guy on RCCrawler about a body, but he wants $250 for it. I offered him $200 shipped and I think that was the end of it because he hasn't gotten back to me. Anyways, I got it all together. I didn't open anything up to look at the gears, but I think it is semi ball raced judging by the sound/operation and the fact that the axles have bearings. I hooked everything up and to my surprise, the transistorized speed controller actually works! This thing is going to be so cool once I get it finished.

I got this truck finished last week. I wound up spending quite a bit more for the missing pieces. Either way, It's a running truck now. All the electronics have been modernized for reliability and play value. The original "ESC" was replaced with a TEU-101BK since the parts were getting jammed up and I wouldn't have any control of it, and I installed a Spektrum radio. It shifts through all three gears and runs very smoothly. However, the brick springs are putting too much stress on the axle parts and I broke one of the hubs. Luckily I bought another Hilux so I was able to steal one from that, but I'm still out one hub.:( I'll be replacing the springs with High-lift ones soon. If anybody has a set of hubs, I'll pay good money for them.
The bottom servo has been taken out.
