Welcome to my build. The Project name is OVERCRAWLIN’ and yes this build will have some influence from the television show Overhaulin’ on SPIKE TV. It’s true I’m a fan but not an automotive ace like Chip Foose and because I tend to work alone. I’m sorry to say this build will not have an Insider or Heist. With that said it should not be hard to figure out that the Build Team (The “B” Team) will only have one person, me. My builds can often take a very long time, so the five day build clock is also out the window. The build location is no secret either. The build will take place in my Shop AKA The Garage. I know no insider, no heist, and no secret location what can be left? Just remember this is still just the beginning and we have The Mark, A Build, and D-day to Go! :thumb:

The adventure starts know with a classic getting overhauled and a ride getting royally reborn as OVERCRAWLIN’. It is also time to check out The Mark for this project. It is one unsuspecting Tamiya CR-01 Toyota Land Cruiser 40.

 [Hidden Camera Shots]

It’s time to check and see what transformations are in store for this Kit. In Foose style, I plan to adjust the ride height and add some modified PRO-LINE Western Bumpers front & rear. I have incomplete ideas in my head at this point on how to adjust the ride height. I also don’t like the looks of the large coil springs. I would like something more scale in appearance. Only time will tell. I think it would be cool to have some kind of guest builders to keeping with the OVERHAULIN’ script. So I will solicit my friends over at TAMIYA CRAWLERS for some help. Other additions will include a 3 Racing Crawler Winch, A Custom built Cargo Rack and to top it all off the Indian Girl Canoe. The Canoe is a plank-on-frame model by Midwest Products and looks like it could be build all of its own. This project could use a rendering and schedule from the Master his self, but I couldn’t get Chip to stop by the shop so I had to come up with something myself. He must have something else to do? I can only hope my truck is gone the next time I go outside. LOL!

The “B” team started with the Steering Rod modifications. Starting with a stock steering rod, I then cut a piece of 3/8” aluminum brake line to length. Removed one end of the stock steering rod and used the cut length as a sleeve over the stock. Re assembled the stock ends and it’s complete. I used the same process for the short control arms and I also made a matching front and rear sets.

It was one of the small things but it can be checked off the listed and I can begin the deconstruction.
:Tamiya1:

You can call it tuff love but I almost always build my kits stock first then start my modification and or fabrications. That holds true for the Land Cruisers damper and coil spring setup. Just remember the goal is D-day here at OVERCRAWLIN’. I know not all of you are going to want to hear this but the goal here is come up with a lower stance vehicle and a more realistic looking shock setup. Deconstruction made a real mess of the shop but it is complete and its time to start working on the parts list and to gather some Intel. After I clean up the shop!

http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff483/Brunion67/OVERCRAWLIN/DSC02332.jpg

Awhile back, so I could stay ahead of the game with my parts orders I reach out for some help from the gang at TAMIYA CRAWLERS. It was in November of 2009 that Arcocustom became one of my quest builders without his or my knowledge at the time. He had a post titled Pro-Line Scaler Shocks. I always liked the look of his CR-01 Jeep Wrangler build and the P-L Scaler Shock seems to fit my application. So…………………..

The Pro-Line Scaler Shocks should bolt to existing holes in the chassis and lower 4-link mount on the axle. You will probably need some long 3mm bolts, 3mm washers, and some 3mm cone spacers to mount them properly. The pictures below gave me a good example of how it could be done and the confidence it could be done.

At a later date Arcocustom also shared some more pictures of his own build and if you compare the three you’ll understand why I have to give credit to him for this mod.
Arcocustom thanks for the help! :thumb:

It’s the morning of day, Well I’m not sure what day it is, but it is time to get started on that Custom Cargo Rack! I wanted something with a Safari or Australian Outback look to it, but I could not find something pre fabricated. The “B” Team was bound to the project rendering so with some more 3/8” aluminum brake line, dryer vent screen, zip ties and an assortment of misc. hardware. The moment of truth is coming up! That’s next on OVERCRAWLIN’.

It’s time to take a trip, off to the paint shop for the first time during this build, a short trip (just the other side of the shop). After some primer and paint we’ll be back with a cargo rack.

The Cargo Rack is back from paint and ready to be stylized, the team added some crawler scale tools from P-L and attached some modified led light buckets from a Tamiya roll bar. Our Custom Cargo Rack is complete but we still have a longs ways to go and D-day is where we are headed on this project called OVERCRAWLIN’ .

The team moved the stock led lens and buckets from the rear of the Land Cruisers Body and inserted them into the rear bumper. I also made some scale license plates with some help from our friends @ www.acme.com/licensemaker. Its back to the hide out for me, someone needs to order the paint soon!

Then I turned my attention to the front bumper by adding a 3 Racing Crawler Winch and some orange led driving lights. Had to make a custom wiring harness combining the driving lights and winch into one unit, also modified the stock mounting arms to accommodate the new bumper. I think it is safe to say we are still looking good but that’s only because we lost the five day build clock back in the beginning.

It’s hard to believe, but this project also includes a wooden plank-on-frame model canoe made by Midwest Products. It took a lot of glue, sanding and patience. It was one sticky situation for the “B” team. Believe me! It was rewarding and I think it turned out well. Check it out!

http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff483/Brunion67/OVERCRAWLIN/DSC01887.jpg http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff483/Brunion67/OVERCRAWLIN/DSC01888.jpg

With just a few items remaining on our list the build team is almost finished. Almost being the key word here. The reveal is lurking just around the corner.

Before the body could finally begin its journey to paint, the bumpers and cargo rack had to be fitted to the body. It’s already late in the game but the “B” team added a scale gas can and strap. I had better thank my lucky stars for not having a build clock!

http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff483/Brunion67/OVERCRAWLIN/DSC02207.jpg http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff483/Brunion67/OVERCRAWLIN/DSC02209.jpg

While some parts of our ride are over in the paint shop. (The trim that’s getting a face left and the Body getting some trim work) It was time to get myself motivated on that interior again.

I really had to jump on board and get started if I wanted to build an Interior, so I found some pictures online and started measuring and cutting pieces. It is critical stages like these that make it impossible to envision on day one, but the pieces are starting to come together. It one of the last details but I could not go forward without it.

http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff483/Brunion67/OVERCRAWLIN/DSC02277.jpg http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff483/Brunion67/OVERCRAWLIN/DSC02282.jpg

With D-day soon approaching for this Land Cruiser, items have been coming and going from the paint shop like made. It going to be sweat and a new life is going to be created.

http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff483/Brunion67/OVERCRAWLIN/DSC02209.jpg http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff483/Brunion67/OVERCRAWLIN/DSC02279.jpg

The build team was looking forward and had a problem with the appearance of the stock headlights. It did not take long for the “B” team to modify a pair of old lens to fit in front or our stock light buckets. After all, the object is to Overhaul!

Project OVERCRAWLIN’ is in its final stages. The body has been prepped for paint and moved to the paint shop and keeping with the Overhaulin’ theme, the Toyota factory badges are under review for relocation. But right here and right know the Interior final assembly is happening!

http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff483/Brunion67/OVERCRAWLIN/DSC02292.jpg http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff483/Brunion67/OVERCRAWLIN/DSC02295.jpg

The inside is complete! Interior and passengers have been secured, interior window trim put on and led unit and wiring all in place. It’s almost show time! :thumb:

http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff483/Brunion67/OVERCRAWLIN/DSC02301.jpg http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff483/Brunion67/OVERCRAWLIN/DSC02304.jpg

Divided in color like the standard Cruiser, ours was born to be a two tone machine. To make it all shinny like a jewel. The build team will used a two step process (candy red and pearl white followed by silver) then one more layer of white as a base for the interior. Soon the color will be on and by sunrise the following day the unwrapping can begin. Next D-day and the Reveal!

Sweet work how did you get those sketchs like that

Thanks Northwest 4x4

Pencil and paper mostly. I also used a light table to transfer some of or parts of, and the others are freehand. Created the OVERCRAWLIN’ logo on my pc, using Paint then printed a few pages like a stationary. I used the light table again to transfer and position the five separate sketch’s on to one page. (I think I had a total 20 something sketch’s before I was happy) The last step was to use a Scanner to get the electronic copy.

Thanks again! :thumb:
