Thats how I have done mine - had a good three hours out with it yesterday and it worked just fine :)
Only issue I am having is with the gearchange rod - as the servo is now in line with the gear rod I cant seem to get it to an angle I am happy with and was having a few issues yesterday :(

Thank you for the pics and this thread.
I'm working on doing this now,I have it hooked on the left, but I may have to try moving the steering rod to the right side.
Its the shift servo I haven't had time to work on.I thought I had it,but I couldn't get it in 1st,,,only 2nd and 3rd. I have to get it done before the weekend so I can use it.

Your welcome :thumb:...i don't know if the pics shows it or not but i lowered the steering servo towards the ground so that the connecting rod from the servo to the steering knuckle will be at a less of an angle, and as for the shift servo
i'll try to post a pic the shows how it is in my HL

The bar you have going from leaf mt. to the chassis does that help much?

I keep looking at your pic's and see things you changed,no shock mt.
you must have gave it a lift and ran out of shock lenth.
I had the same prob. I had to drill a hole down lower on my mt.
I wish my camera wasn't broke I'd show my HL and thing's I've changed.

I also want to convert my HL to direct pull steering, but i have a question about the shift servo.
The shift servo has to be moved to the other side and the servo horn has to been cut, does the servo turn enough for correct shifting.
Thnks.
