I had one back in the late 80s. They were prety good for there day... & are still fun to play with.
most guys Ive talked to now days hate the old tamiyas. they concider them no better than a tyco, nyco, newbright, radio shack, etc. sold @ wallmatt or other department stores.. but thats because they are compairing them to todays cars & they grew up with these new cars..
anyway post up some pics when you start working on it.

really they do that comparison? Hobby shops here don't carry anything tamiya but they at least respect the name... some kids have never heard of it but I don't think I have ever heard it compared to tyco

This comes from the local ritch snobs... They see them as a cheep, flimsy, POS. These are the same group of guys that race out & buy the newest thing that hits the shelvs & pay the local hobby store to build & work on there cars.
I just laugh when i her them compare them to Niko since Niko made hobby grade cars back in the 70's.
1 local hobby store has the Tamiya beetle. But no other models or parts at all! the other 2 have nothing tamiya at all.
I personaly love the tamiya cars! I dont think there is another brand out there with as much detail or cool factor... though Kyosho has a few vintage's that I would like to have...
But firts things first......... I want the rerelease Sand Scorcher. when $$$ alows, Im geting one....

Did anyone know tamiya use to produce stuff for tyco rc I just recently purchased a vintage tyco super hopper i was actually looking for a turbo hopper i had when i was a kid and found this one instead. The tyco/tamiya ones were fast my turbo hopper was more than just a toy. fast enough to be used as a weapon. Anyways i got this here 4wd awd super hopper and all be it not as fast as the 2wd turbo hopper is a pretty cool rc. low an dhigh gear like the turbo hopper. so we were running it on a dirt hill track we made and it brought back memories. next day someone left a shovel out and i plowed into it off a jump, broke the uprights that the front axle goes through so i looked all over and cant find any tamiya/tyco parts, studying all the old 4wd dune buggies tamiya made back then and theres a few models that ad a similar setup drive axles in front dual motors, i havent tore it open yet to see what i have inside i did fix the part with super glue then layered the whole part with 2 part epoxy and it hasnt snapped again now if you took the hotshots uprights added the upper and lower ball and made it all one piece plastic thats whats in this tyco superhopper im going to order some uprights and upper lower balls i hoope there the same size axles and stuff.... I may start a thrread here about it with pics but well i guess my point being these guys that dont like old tamiya and compare it to tyco hehe i wonder if they know tamiya and tyco were in bed together back then haha
and if anyone knows anything about finding parts or which tamiya model is this tyco super hoppers closes match i should could use the advice. Anyone know anything about this please chime in is it whats motor is it using? i swear theres two of them. find out when i get in there. funny thing about it is everything on this comes off as if its meant to be replaced about 50 screws haha they just dont build toys like this anymore.
Oh and i know asi have been told by the local hobby shops
theres a difference between a toy and a hobby class rc when a professional one breaks you fix it when a toy breaks you trash it, something along those lines well i replied what do you do when a memory breaks......?
besides its a mash between a toy and a hobby class as i said evrything comes off they dont make toys like that..:) anyone know if i can take the wheels off? do they unscrew? i dont want to break it trying haha
