My favorite all time chassis to run with my favorite hardbody truck on it. It couldn't be better. Or maybe it can. Well, I've spent most of my rc career perfecting this truck. The chassis has some gear mesh problems, but if you shim it right, it's solid.

very nice looking old Blazer, its a wonder why Tamiya hasn't made a K5 like we all see every day (the Blazing Blazer is kinda cool but I've never seen a wing on a Blazer myself) very nice work on yours!

I repainted the truck and installed some lights. I still need to tuck the wheels in a bit more.

I made a new body mount for the rear. Before I used to have to reach in to the bed to put the body pins in. It was such a hassle to change batteries. Yesterday, I just installed a hinge for the body to lift up. The tail pipes limit the travel, but there is enough clearance. Now I have hassle free battery changing and I can spend more time playing and less time frustrated!

Spencertrax's plow truck motivated me to rebuild my old plow. The setup works fine now, but my electronics aren't working properly. My Hitec radio is getting really glitchy.

The chassis has some gear mesh problems, but if you shim it right, it's solid.

What areas do we need to shim? Want to do it now before the problem worsens. By the way the body looks perfect now, paint job is spot on and it looks really scale in this pic! With some close up pictures, it would be hard to tell it was 1/10 :thumb:

Thanks Bok! You should put a spacer on top of this gear, Tamiya has .020 of slop in the bearing bore gear case halves. This will eliminate gear clicking and mesh problems. You should also install ball bearings if you haven't already and make sure the gearbox lid is on tight.

I just finished installing a GD-600 gear reduction unit. It now has great low end throttle. The only downfall is that I cant drift/powerslide it anymore, but it's a stump puller for sure!

Yep, I've spent a LOT of time perfecting the mechanics and the drive train on this truck. It may not look like it, but it runs like a clock. I didn't have the need to open up the gearbox for over a year before I had to oped it back up to install the reduction unit. It's my favorite Tamiya for sure!

You can also still order the Pajero kit at places like rpphobby.com. It's cheaper than the Wrangler if you're just after the chassis.

I glued the axles and let it cure overnight.I can't break the pieces off by hand, so we'll see how long it holds up. I used Zap-a-Gap CA before thinking about the Tenax-7 stuff and how good it's supposed to be. After that I applied some PVC/ABS cement just to make sure the other glues will hold up since I've used the cement on my Blazer and Suburban bodies and those have held up so well. So there's three layers of glue on the repairs!

Blazerbogger

It didn't hold unfortunately. It broke 30 seconds into the run. I'll try a few more things, but I'll be happier with a reliable axle case. It is weird though; I've never seen this happen to an XC before either. Maybe I'll make custom 4-link mounts for it.
