well I thought I'd post this up here as well.
this is my first attempt at any kinda bodywork.
I think the bobbed bed came out pretty good.

anyways here are the pics.

lookin good, thats bout where Im at on my build, whats the purpose of shortening the bed ? Is that frame shorter ?

sods
12-05-2008, 11:17 AM
no the frames still the original length.
bobbing the bed helps w/ depature angle
on climbs. well that and I think it just looks
good that way:D

jeffro
12-05-2008, 11:26 AM
I kinda figured that but wasn't sure, and if you like it, thats what counts. What frame is that ?

sods

Nice start and nice bodywork. I want to build a Hilux someday. Are you going to do any tube work? Cant wait for updates!

sods
12-05-2008, 11:58 AM

jeffro

no problem, can't wait to see more. Can u tell me how you got the pics on your post at the top. I did it earlier but I still don't think its the right way.
I looked at the path under properties of the pic, but I don't see a album or gallery for you under Albums, am I lost

sods
12-05-2008, 12:28 PM
I didn't start an album at all.
when you start/reply to a post scroll down
past the "submit supply" button, you should
see a "manage attachments" button just click
on that and add your pics in.
hope that helps.

i think that help, let me try. I know this is kinda broken up, but yes that helps a whole lot, except I need to resize all my pics, they would be huge and I would be in trouble. :o

Thank you very much, I need all the help I can get when it comes to a forum.

sods
12-05-2008, 12:43 PM
no problem. its kind of learn as I go thing for me as well.
fortunatley most forums have the same basic set up,
so once you got one down you can use it else where.

Well, you did a fantastic job. It's not even filled or painted yet and it's hard to tell where the cut is.

thank you kindly, that was my 1st attempt at body work on a kit.

Question, are you using the silver can motor that came with the truck. I know the instructions on these Hi-lift models say not to use modified motors, are they talking about hifh speed motors, do u or anyone use the slower lathe motors on your hi lift

sods
12-08-2008, 07:06 AM
yeah me too. it seems like it would be a daunting task at first,
doesn't it?
wasn't too bad though once i got into it.

jeffro
12-08-2008, 07:14 AM
you got that right. I kinda thought I was nuts cutting up a perfectly good body, but I believe it worked out great, and it seems pretty sturdy. Guess I will find out when I take it out.

actually the only thing I'm using from the kit is the body.
the chassis is a reign rc, k2-5 and I using an axial trans w/
a venom fireball 50t crawler motor. I have seen some guys
running lathe motors on their hiluxs though.

It would be easy to build an RC version of that.

Tamiya Bruiser axles and shackles, chassis, cab
HPI stock car rims
Trail Doc XL's

That's exactly what I want to do! I'm hoping to be able to order a Hilux kit right after the holidays.

sods

yeah, that would make a pretty slick lookin'
rc trail rig for sure.

hopefully I get some time tonite to put
the body together and get a few pics.

got her up and running over the holidays and took
her out for a test run(forgot the camera of course).

she needed a few tweaks, and I was waiting for the
permanent esc to come in. so over the weekend I installed
the new esc, and also installed some internal springs in the
shocks to help w/ the torque twist.

anyways on to the pics.

Looking good, like that 84, I used to drive an 88 till it rusted to bad and was leaking oil all over my driveway so I found another old truck which wasn't as worn out as my yota.

I love this truck. I learned to drive stick on a 86 4runner when I was 10. Pop put me on a hill and told me to go up it..... 489,745.9 miles on her the day she finely died. (timing chain slacked up worn a hole in motor causing coolant to go into the oil.)

But as for you photos, I love running through the snow and just seeing the little dip where the pumpkin hits the snow.

Great looking truck. The green looks great in the woods. I've been thinking about repainting one of my rigs a hue of green.

Looks like fun, with snow and running water. All the creeks round here are in solid form right now :D

yeah it was a blast, water was pretty damn cold though.
I got her high centered on a log on the far side of the creek
and had to wade in after her.

A little late, I just fell upon it :p First I have to say great looking yota!! 2nd I was curious to see how you like that chassis with the TLT axles. I have them both in a box for a future build myself...Just cant seem to decide on a body!

sods

thanks ice:thumb: the tlt/k5 combo is a great set up.
with a little suspension tweaking after I first built her,
she crawls great.
