Ok guys I have seen some really wild looking Sand Scorcher clones/wanna-bes, and have to build one.. The main thing is I want the wheels to look right in the front.. I dont want them to be skated out like the old Blitzer Beetle.... I realise that it will never be the same thing.. but what Tamiya chassis do you think will give me the best preformance as a basher/fun racer (to go and run on a track meant for Slashes)
Also if anyone has a link to a buildup on one of said critters please post a link...
Thanks Guys!

I voted for a Frog base because I don't have any experience with a Hornet. I can say that my Frog is a great base because it has good speed and performance. I have also seen Scorchers on this chassis.

Thanks Blazerbogger! I am actually trying to sign up over at Tamiya Club.. there are some wild pics of scorcher clones over there...
going to wait till I get a few more votes on the subject and then go from there....

I'd go with the Frog too. The rear end of a Hornet/Grasshopper does just that...it hops! The Sand Scorcher wasn't exactly stable and glued to the ground but I think the fully independent Frog chassis will appear to perform closer to that of the original.

I had a few Frogs that always seemed to run where ever there was solid(ish) ground. We ran them on the beach on the base in Pensacola a lot. I build a 2wd Crawler frog..... I broke CV joints....... but it was fun. :)

I think that it has the old Rough Rider Tires and rims on it.. just not to sure about some of the vintage or aftermarket stuff that was out there at the time the Frog was new.. (I had a lowly hornet back then)

Nice find. That is a rare vintage Parma Chenoweth racing team body. I have the same one on my Frog. Many people don't like it though. I think it looks great. Kind of like a Rough Rider body.

Very cool.. I kinda figured that it was a tough to find body.. Now if I could just figure out how to remove the old paint without damaging the lexan...

Good luck with that if it's painted with polycarbonate or similar paint. Luckily with mine, it was painted with an acrylic? base paint, so I just had to tap the body to separate the paint.

YAY!!! it got here today!
Aparrently it has a set of Holiday buggy rear tires, and the body is a Prepainted job.. oooo factory paint job.. Somthing tells me the body will end up getting cleaned up and put on a shelf..
So I have my guy at the LHS looking into getting me info on the new frog rear internals and dogbone setup.. as well as full bearings...
The MB body looks like it is going to be a good fit.. shouldnt have any problem with it going on there at all!
