Some of you might know this build, but I don't care :p So I'm gonna post it here also.

The years 1985 and 1986 were the only years that there participated Defender 90's in the Camel Trophy. So that's the reason it is gonna be one from that year. Well enough talk, so let's move on to the build.

First I planned to make it on a CC-01 chassis. But plans changed I have a nice mirek chassis laying for it together with some TLT axles. Dual axle is so crucial for the capacities of the vehicle, and for it's scale appearance in this case.

I started off with the roll cage, I have chosen to go for an outer front cage. As that simply looks the best IMO. Also the upper beam is not in front of the window, but above the roof. There where two types of this cage, I thought this one looked the best. So after bending, filing, soldering, and filing again to make the joint smooth it was done. I have to say that the soldering holds up extremely well, and for this solutions it is strong enough by far.

Well then I had to go to the roofrack, which was a **** of a job. Could you image filing all the gaps to that the brass beams will fit nicely into each other? Well I had to do that, as said a **** of a job. But it's worth it.

That done I discovered another problem, there were no landy steel wheels on the market. So there was no other solution then designing them myself, as there was loads of interest in the wheels I looked to the possibility of selling them. Unfortunately that was going to turn out a bit too expensive, so the design is now gone to RC4WD and the wheels are now sold by them.

This is how she looks on the CC-01 chassis with the roll-cage, roofrack and landy wheels fitted.

I removed the rivets on the sidepanels of the car, the old 90's doesn't have them. So no other way than to remove them.

But there was more to be removed, there were unneeded rivets on the back. Together with a triangular thingy above the backdoor (see first pics).

The fuel cap was also on the completely wrong place, so moved that one to a place that fits it better. You can also see how I changed the doorhandle to the proper lift-up type, and gave the backdoor the doorhandle:

Also moved the frontgrille a bit backwards, as the standard grille on this one is for the modern airco model.

The roof was also way too smooth for this model, as on the 85/86 model they had that nice beams on the roof. So again some styrene, and in this case shoe goo were going to do the trick:

After some more looking I noticed the rivets under the rearwindow were 6 small ones. And the real model that I'm doing had only 3 big ones:

Something that is also crucial in the camel trophy is a snorkel. I made this one from styrene and electricity wire. The wire was used to imitate the rubber hose. But when you wind the wire around it you won't have that smooth look that a real rubber hose does have. You can get that real look by filling the space with some white woodglue:

The snorkel isn't the only really needed thing, so is the high-lift jack too. Nothing else possible than to make one:

Well that was a lot of talk about the outside, now let's go to the inside. As I gave the interior a working steering wheel, so you can see the driver figure move his arm together with the steering wheel:

And off course I want to introduce the driver to you you:

At the moment the putty that I have putted into the holes for the blinkers on the front fenders is drying, back then they didn't have blinkers at that place. Also like the one grille that is on one side, for which the hole on the side is also filled with putty and drying at the moment.

Pffff, that was loads of typing. I hope you like it :thumb:

P.s. I'm sorry that it is done in so many post, but every post is limited to 4 pics. And that's including smilies... Oh, and @mod, can you move it to the build talk?

I have 2 drivers, a driver an co-pilot. It is gonna be the Australian or English team from 1986
Names:
Jerry Gartley & David Scott (Great Britain 1986)
Glenn Jones / Ronn Begg (Australia 1986)

In 1985 these countries didn't participate, and I really need one if these countries because it is Right Hand Drive. Not sure what team to choose, thinking to get the Australian one.

Wow. Very thorough and authentic build. I'm always surprised by how scale some builds are. Kudos. ;)

Hehe, thanks. I really try to make it as scale as possible, I get a sort of kick out of it.:)

Well, just to show you my trailfinder/mirek chassis and TLT axles I'm gonna use.
Still need to order some shocks, tires a gearbox and some other stuff. A friend of mine has some spotlights and the scaleoffroad emblems laying around for me. But not gonna get that before I'm off to sweden. And besides that at the moment I have the very well know "I-have-no-money-disorder". Also because I'm gonna get my own CNC installation within a while.

Here the chassis and axles:
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc164/julesneefjes/DSC00362.jpg

But hey, don't worry. That doesn't mean you won't get updates, as I have a lot to draw now to be cnc'ed. For example a winch, and the bumpers are also gonna be cnc'ed. Ok the winch has already been drawn, so I will show you that. I have drawn the originally used Warn 8274 exactly in scale for this. Here's the rendering I have for you:

Now I hope that I have the skills to get it all machined very nice. Oh man I can't wait :D

Thanks peeps :)

At the mo no updates, as I am sitting in Sweden on holiday. And the Landy is still waiting on me in The Netherlands. When I am back in NL I'm gonna order some stuff for it, and go on building.
