I am about to buy a Toyota Hilux and I need advice on the radio to get with it. It is between these two

and this one:

If the second one will work then that is the one I want to use. And it is only 20 bucks more. I plan on ordering ASAP. Thanks in advance.

Those are both good radios but are kinda intended for aircraft so the throttle stick likely won't return to neutral it will stay forward, this is very annoying when driving a car as you have to pull it back manually to slow or stop, I would recommend this one as it was made for the 3 speeds, tanks, semis etc. it is a basic radio but they work very well.

If you plan to get the MFU unit the older manual trim version called the 4vwd is a better choice but they are discontinued I believe.

See From what I understood you can not use a digital trim radio for the three speed, If you can confirm this is the right one then I will order it. I do like it.

My Tundra kit box shows both of the Futaba 4wd versions listed, but as far as I know the the "problem" with digital trims is only if you use the optional MFU because of how it is programmed and used by sliding the trim sticks after it is programmed to control various functions, if you don't use the MFU it shouldn't make a difference if you have digital trim or not, but maybe someone else on here as more input. This might be helpful.

Yeah, All I care about is shifting gears, as long as it will work for that, I am good. I dont wast my time with sound units, I tend to drive them in/under water so that is just a wast of cash. So how does the "shifting" work? I am still trying to figure it out.

The Futaba 4gwd radio should come with a shift gate or the book has templates to make one for the left stick, forward and reverse are normal as with any car and a stick radio but it can be done in 3 postions as the left stick moves side to side which makes the shift servo slide a shifting rod in the tranny to whichever gear is selected, so the shift gate has 3 slots 1,2,3 you slide the stick right or left to select gear and then go forward/reverse in whichever gear you want, this can all be done pretty quickly and shifting on the fly is very fun, it is kinda hard to explain but is really a lot of fun and the instruction book makes it easy to set up.

Dude you are the man, You helped me out so much. (both here and on the CC side.) Suprisingly this makes complete sence to me now. So thanks. So I take it this is the unit you use then, right? I am about to place my order at tower.

You're more than welcome, I have 3 of the older manual trim 4vwd versions, which can be still found on ebay but I really see no reason the 4gwd wouldn't be better for you without the MFU, I am always bumping those trim sticks and then my truck grinds because the trim got messed up and its not quite in gear and I have to make adjustments lol! With digital trim you can set it up without worry of bumping it out of adjustment so easy. I plan to get me one of those 4gwds for my Tundra which doesn't have the MFU.
