Hi gang, I'm new here.

24 years ago I built a Tamiya Hornet and proceeded to drive it into the ground. For Christmas last year I was given an Land Cruiser CR-01 and now I'm hooked. In the last month and a half I'm working on my third Tamiya kit.

I just bought a Toyota Hilux and I'm ready to start building but I have a question. I bought a set of ball bearings to replace the solid metal bearings that come with the kit. One of the first couple of instructions tells me not to replace one of the solid metal bearings with a ball bearing, why?

Is there anything else I should know before I really get into the build?

Your talking about the one that goes in the tranny?

Ya sorry, it's step 2 of the instructions.
2 bearings are glued into J7. Maybe it'll make sense to me when I'm actually building the thing.
(I'm at work right now, don't tell anyone)

The best I can tell, the only reason it says that is because you have to glue them in. I used bearing in any case and made sure none of the glue got on the sides of the bearings.

Okay, thanks McFig.
Maybe I'll just use a ball bearing then.

Any tips for the rest of the build?

:o I didn't see the part where you have to glue them. I used the bronze bearings even though my ball bearing kit came with the four? extra ball bearings. Maybe you can use them? By the way, I haven't run into any problems running those bearings unglued.

When I built my Ford f-350 it didn't mention this but on the hilux and Tundra I think they learned/updated it for a reason and made the change in the newer trucks so I glued the bronze bushings in both my Hilux and Tundra as per the directions but used bearings everywhere else. but I haven't noticed any issues doing it either way.

All I have is the F350 and it said to glue it in.

Oh, and I havn't had any issues with the glued in bearing.
