Hi all, new to the forums. I found tamiyacrawers.com doing a search looking for information on the Toyota Tundra High Lift. Im not new to the hobby but I am new to the crawler/scale end of it. I have always had interest in it but never I guess you can say "pull the trigger" in making a purchase for one.

After browsing the site a bit I see there is the Tundra, Ford and the good ol Toyota Hilux kits...my question is...are these kits all the same but with different bodies? And do these guys make good rock crawlers? I have watched some vids on them on the rocks and seem to be ok on smaller courses but will they climb a pile of rocks?

I know this is a Tamiya Forum but are these in the same class as say an Axial Rock Crawler?

Sorry if this has been covered before but I didnt seem to have any luck finding it. Im just a bit torn on what to get and want to make the right choice! But I do have to admit the Tundra looks so incredible that Im ready to buy it for its looks haha.

Thanks guys and I hope to be sharing a build of my own sometime soon!

No, the three are not the same with different bodies. The F-350 is the shortest, the Hilux is a little bit longer and the Tundra is the longest. The F-350 and the Hilux are the closest. The Hilux has just a plastic extention on the back for the longer body.

You have to ask yourself if you are looking for a scale crawler/trail rig or just a straight up rock crawler. If you want a scaler then any of the three trucks would work great. To get better performance out of it for crawling you should probably 4-link which-ever of the hi-lifts you get.
If you want just a straight up rock crawler with no scale, then you can get an Axial.

Thanks McFig. I went with the Tundra High-Lift. I have everything except the bearings (which Im hoping will show up tomorrow) and I can start my build. I cant wait!

Im going to run the Tekin FXR 55t pro combo, 2.2 beads with Hammer G8 tires and a Castle Creations BEC.
