Well, I completed the mechanical build of my Toyota Hilux with no problem, my radio doesn't always behave but that's a different story. My problem is with the paint!
I put too much primer on in one place and now there’s a little ridge visible under the paint.
Should I try sanding it and repainting? Or should I try to remove the ridge with some paint thinner, sand it and then primer and repaint?

I try sanding first

Okay, I'll try some more sanding.
This darn paint is taking longer than all the other assembly combined.
But at least I'm learning as I go.

I hear ya. I scratched the bejesus out of my land cruiser last week.
After the first few times it got easier to see it roll backwards onto it's roof.

For this Hilux I would like it to look good long enough to take some pictures.

Yeah I'd just keep at it , I spend far more time painting and detailing than I do building, but thats because with a Tamiya kit the results of a patient paint or decal job really pay off when it brings out the details not found in any other RCs :thumb:

Gahhh! Now I think I have too much paint on it.

I wonder how much a new body would cost.

Done, just don't look too closely at the paint.

By the way the paint I used was touch up paint for a Toyota.

Runs in a paint job happen to everyone. My CR-O1 WRANGLER had a nice flow indicator that I wet sanded and buffed off. Weather (cold/rain) got the better of me. Your first coat should be a medium one. Allow it to tack up 1O-15 minutes, then follow that with a second heavier coat. Patience is the key to any good paint job.

...and weathering is the best way to fix one that goes not as planned

my f350 is on its 4th paint job. Ive been using Duplicolor paint and wet sanding between colors and I hand buffed the whole truck before I spray the clear coat

Hi everyone:
I am spanish, and thus dont get all your words.
I have as well started recenttly with the Hilux, and need some advice on the paint. Otherwise, I will end up like a Mad Max stuff.
What do you mean with sanding? What´s the process.
Thanks for drawing one or two lines.

I still need help too.

Do you rough up the surface a little first with sand paper?
Do you guys put down a primer coat? If so what kind?
What is the finest grit of sand paper that you use?

Any help would be appreciated.

Here are the steps I take: (but I'm no professional)

1. Wash the new body with soap and water. Dry and then let sit overnight
2. Spray white primer on. Let dry a couple of hours.
3. Use 800 to 1000 grit sand paper to sand any rough spots. Wipe down with soft cloth
4. Spray white primer on and let dry. If everything looks smooth, then let sit overnight. If not, then sand and primer again.
5. Put on color paint how I want. Let dry (couple of hours).
6. If it looks smooth enough for me, then let it sit overnight. If not, then step 7.
7. Use wet sandpaper, 1200 grit, and smooth rought spots. (get the sandpaper and body wet)
8. Dry the body and let sit for a couple hours to make sure its dry
9. Paint and let dry. If smooth, then let it sit overnight. If not, then repeat 7.

Thats what I do in a nut shell. Others might have better suggestions. Wyoming?

New bodys should be washed with soap and water. Then remove all the flashing and mold lines and scuff the raw body with 400 grit sandpaper. Re-wash the body then dry with a soft cloth. Apply 2 coats of Tamiya Fine Surface Primer (White). Allow primer to dry a minimum of 8 hours. Once dry wet sand entire body lightly with 800 grit sandpaper, then wash and dry body. Now you can paint
