i have seen a couple of guys do this wheel mod, so i figured i would give it a try.
i hacked the inner ring of an old hpi wheel
http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff347/chickenlilly/ogre/IMG_0093.jpg
and glued it to the outside of a hpi stock car rim.
http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff347/chickenlilly/ogre/IMG_0098.jpg
was originally planning to paint it black, but kind of like it this way, may still go with black though.

I like the wider wheels you made. More scale looking than before the mod. More akin to what's really out on the trail.:thumb:

thanks guys
i made another set today and painted them black. i also used a rim that had a small lip on the edge for some more texture. the silver band actually makes the rim look smaller.

I like the all black version. Looks like an American Racing steel wheel.

I believe the american racing wheel has a red stripe all around it. I kinda like the all black wheels better.
I really like the detail you've got in there for the shackles. What chassis is this? It's VERY realistic. This is coming from an original owner of a 1995 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. Interesting to see that you shaved off the strange side marker that Tamiya seems to think is supposed to be there. (Its on the 1/24 scale static and the CR-01 chassis on. Anyway I'm quite impressed. Can't wait to see the final product.

Yes, the American Racing wheels have two pinstripes on the outside lip of the bead. One red and one blue.

Some fine looking wheels Christian, I'm sure you could stripe them by chucking them up in a lathe or drill and spinning very slowly while drawing the lines with a fine paint brush or paint marker.

thanks guys, i was copying that look of the black a/r wheels, but wasnt sure i wanted to add the red stripe, but who knows, i have changed my mind before.

thanks man, always good to get an opinion of a yj owner. i have often wondered about the marker lights too.

the chassis was made by a member on another site, i had him follow the outline of the frame embossed on the xc chassis, but now i wished i had gone with a more conventional chassis. this was really like starting from scratch.

The amber side repeater lamp came on EXPORT ONLY 1987- 1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ's. An example of the pinstripes on the steel wheels can be seen here. http://www.uswheel.com/wheel.cfm?category=59

ha ha, that is pretty funny.
after i posted that i got to thinking, and knowing tamiya and how accurate they are, wouldnt have made up a place to put lights, so i figured in japan or asia they must have had lights there. great info man.

makes perfect sense now, why it's there... Now why did they put it on the full size Export models is beyond me. Oh well. I'm waiting for the reissue that's coming out. I plan to get one. Maybe not to build as detailed as you guys, but at least to some extent a replica of mine. Body Color - Chrysler's - Light Pearl Stone PearlCoat. With the Sierra Trim Package. Question, do the decals on here come in contrasting colors to work with the body color I'm gonna use? I believe it's the Spice color.
One more detail I don't or haven't seen on these jeep models is the Bumperette on the rear end. The r/c body has this weird looking bump our under the tail lights that I assume are where the chassis connects to the body, but it seems to be kind of wrong. I wonder if anyone's replicated the bumperettes on their model?

I wonder if anyone's fashioned a set of bumperettes on their model or not? I think it was always a factory installed option on all Jeep YJs. I always thought they looked lacking without them. When I get one of these re reissues, I'm gonna definately include something like it on mine.

Is the roll bar metal or styrene?
7point2
04-16-2009, 10:59 PM
its styrene, i dont plan to run it much without the hard shell top, so it will be ok. i also really dont plan to abuse this truck, but will run it.
i really wanted the option to have the removable top with the roll bar for some realistic photo shoots.

thanks for the support guys
made some hinges for the hood the other day, but was a few screws short(no surprise there) but you get the idea. they will either be painted to match the body or black. i havent decided yet.

http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff347/chickenlilly/IMG_2137.jpg
this was something else i have been thinking of for a while now. i wanted to use the pajero lights but they are so unscale and so bulky. so i had an idea.
i cut the inner lip of the chrome light cup. then i cut the ridge arount the lens and sanded a little around the circumfrence so the lens fit in the chrome light cup. then i cut the light cover band off all the way down where it meets the cage. then glued the three together.
http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff347/chickenlilly/IMG_2128.jpg
http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff347/chickenlilly/IMG_2130.jpg
what you end up is with a much more scale looking light.
http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff347/chickenlilly/IMG_2142.jpg
i really like the way this came out and will turn all my jero lights into this. i will probably paint the back of it black and cut off the mounts and make some scale mounts for it.

i have been slow on updates on this, but am into this build again. firewall, wheel wells and floor just about done. a few more things and i should be able to get some paint on it, even though after all this time, ( i am getting close to 450 hours on this model) i still cant seem to pick a color

This build has continued to amaze me with every update and most likely will for a long time to come, but Rome was not built in a day and time is what prevents everything from happening at once.

This build is one of the best! Please keep the update coming, I will continue admire every one no matter how long it takes.

Don't worry I have a plan! I found this in Wikipedia.
Flux capacitor
The flux capacitor, which consisted of a regularly squared compartment with three flashing lights (arranged in a "Y" configuration) was described by Doc as "what makes time travel possible". The device is the core component of the time machine.
Cant find anything on e-bay or craigslist, maybe you can help. LOL

Wow! I have a 1:1 scale '95 wrangler YJ as a daily driver! Suiting up for a lift, 31's, & a custom dash swap! For a dash, you should just get an aluminum panel & put gauges, stereo, etc... Simple, & ridiculously scale, that's how I'm doing mine! Great biuld dude
