Got the shocks I ordered Monday night today from RPP Hobby. Installed them with no internal springs and changed the oil. Now it has dual scale shocks in the front, mounted on custom mounts. All the bodywork is done and the body is primed and ready to paint. Still haven't made body mounts yet. I want them to be hidden so I've been thinking of different ways to do that. Also been thinking about deleting the roll bar. Think it looks cleaner and more scale without it.

Yeah, still playing with how high the body ought to be. Went down to Perry, Fl. where I grew up on vacation recently. Theres no rocks to climb, as most of Florida is below sea level, so trucks there are built accordingly. Lowering the body will make a big difference. I think it would be a good idea.
Finally decided how to mount the body. Used the stock F- 350 hinges in the rear and a custom mount in the front. It's a bolt on affair. Remove 2 front bolts and the whole body pivots on the rear hinges funny car style. Two more bolts and the body comes off. The original mock-up had the body a little high, so I lowered it 3/8 of an inch. Mounted tires on my new wheels last night. The fronts rubbed the steering links, so I removed the inner bead lock rings and modified them to fit. The body is ready to paint and hope to have that part done soon.
New stance.

Greg
Thanks. I like it too. The rear driveshaft is on a steep angle because of the 15mm of lift on the suspension and where the tail shaft of the transfer case is located. To help reduce the strain on the drive shaft, I run a 6 degree angle block under the leaf spring in the rear, tilting the pinion shaft up 6 degrees. I've test run this set-up and it works as it should. If it breaks or binds in the future, I will upgrade to steel CV shafts, but I think it will be fine.
I ordered all the electronics this week and fabed up a servo mount, body mounts, and front bumper mounts. Just have the battery mount left to go. Should be ready to test drive by next Friday. Will post how that test went.

Test drove the snot out of the chassis last night and everything works great! Has all 3 gears, good steering throw, and the driveline worked flawlessly. The suspension is rock hard, which makes the truck a little bouncy, but softer leaf springs should tame that. Happy with the first test run. Oh yeah, the truck is very fast.

Nice work Arco. How do you get the wires to "coil" like you have coming off your ESC?

Nice work Arco. How do you get the wires to "coil" like you have coming off your ESC?
It is very easy. Simply coil the wire around a small metal rod, wrapping tightly, with the coils side by side. Don't stretch the wires. Can make coils more permanent by slightly warming them with a hair dryer. Don't melt them.

Yes, a clean install. Love doing this, as well. Just be careful not to pull on the ESC wire end. I had internal wire connection getting screwed. Furtunately Tekin Service is one of the best. They actually replaced the ESC. Servo wire connections -- they are more hardy and can take a bit more abuse.

You're welcome IceChilly. Customizing should continue throughout, even underneath the body. Taking time to do the wiring neatly makes for a nicer ride. Use 2 layers of double sided tape to mount your receiver, Twist your motor leads to limit R/F noise, space the receiver and ESC far as possible apart to reduce glitching, and so on.
Went huntin' for some softer leaf springs and this is what I found on e-bay.:link:http://cgi.ebay.com/RC-CRAWLER-Soft-Steel-Leaf-Spring-for-F-350-RC4WD-4_W0QQitemZ330334933143QQcmdZViewItemQQptZFR_CA_V% C3%A9hicules_radiocommand%C3%A9s?hash=item4ce97f10 97&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1205%7C 240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

The height of the paint on the rocker panels makes me cringe! The blue should extend down to the top of the rear bumper. In other words, the white is about 4mm too high. It can be offset a little with an addition of a silver trim line, which would be about 2-3mm wide. Other than that, I'm diggin' the paint scheme on that killer truck!

There's gonna be a trim line there, haven't got to it yet. The white is where it should be. On the fullsize truck that border is split 50/50 on the front sidemarker light.

So I go outside to test run the truck after some tweaks to the steering. Everything was going good in the back yard, but there wasn't enough room to wind out 3rd gear. So I go's out front into the street. Made a few high speed passes, OK, then on the last pass started oversteering, over corrected, and traction rolled it. So after it's Cristening I takes it inside to survey the damage...
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3622/3611521210_576df3717d_d.jpg
Chipped the paint on all 4 beadlocks. So I sanded and painted 4 new ones.
Then while I was changing them out I decided to make custom wider foams.

The foam on the right was what was in there. They were to short and not wide enough and it was like driving on 4 flat tires.

4mm faux hub wheel nuts. Warn locking hubs in the front and 14 bolt floating hubs for the rear. They came in a natural aluminium finish. I polished the selector knob on the Warn hubs, then painted them satin black.

Yeah. The body was removed for the stunt driving. It was inside on the shelf when it all went wrong. A good lesson in how not to drive. First time I ever barrel rolled a High-Lift. Proabaly got something to do with 20 mph and too radical a driving style.
Thanks on the wheels. Good thing I had extra rings. The grille? Eventually I'll get around to it. Still fiddling with little details.

A divorced transfer case is a stand alone unit, meaning it's not "mated" to a tranny. It is connected to the transmission by a driveshaft.
