So yea, another build. About time, eh?
Anyways, I recently acquired a Land Rover LR3 body, the nice one, from talon. Remember my old one that I sold with solid axles and I never finished? Well, I am really going to do a Dakar build with this one.
Don't believe me yet? I bought a Tamiya TB-01 and will use the independent axles from it for a fully scale Dakar LR3. That's right, independent suspension.
As for the chassis, I have been in talks with Darcknes, the Original ML500 owner, and he has helped me out with the chassis design, and the overall independent suspension idea, seeing as his ML500 build has inspired me.
These are the inspirational pictures, and what I will be going for this time around.

Finished cutting the chassis rails and cross members. Just need to drill holes.
Chassis design is from Darcknes. :)

Slight change of plans on the chassis.
I have been talking to 4x4mtb, and he will make a full tube chassis with roll cage, like the real Dakar SUVs. We are going for something like so:

Scale BFG's. RC4WD has the 1.9 market cornered. Now you only need everything that hooks to those to make a car.:D

I think I am going all out on this one.
Just bought a 3 speed semi transmission from Joe's. I will use my Axial transmission as a transfer case. I hope the 3 speed fits under the hood. It will be a Land Rover LR3 V8 HSE now.
What the semi 3 speed looks like:

I just bought one of those from the same guy on e-bay about a month ago. It went together fairly easy. That's alot of trans. that takes up alot of space. I guess we'll see if you can shoe horn it in there.:D

The drivetrain idea was to have a front engine (2 speed) going into a transfer case (axial), but there was a space issue. 4x4mtb suggested the idea of making the LR3 Dakar a mid-engine style, of which I like the idea.
The 3 speed converted to a 2 speed (soon) will be mounted in the mid rear, behind the front seats, and will connect to the transfer case which will be under or between the front seats.
The mid engine layout is better for jumping anyways, and this is not your normal soccer mom Discovery 3.
The idea:

http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv191/4x4mtb/chassis.jpg
http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv191/4x4mtb/chassisbody.jpg
http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv191/4x4mtb/untitled4.jpg
Note that it is a mock up, and the transmission is not a reduced 2 speed yet.

Final adjustment of transmission. We got rid of the transfer case and modified the 2 speed to accept 2 drive shafts, so it can sit lower.

Thank you!
The original idea was to put the motor and transmission under the hood, and hook it up to an Axial transmission as a transfer case.
But the motor and transmission were too big, even after reducing the 3 speed to a 2 speed, so they didn't fin under the hood.
Now, with the transmission/motor in the rear, it gives it a mid engined feel, and will be better for jumping as it will be more stable once the weight is balanced.

Ah, I see. Might I suggest you rotate it 180 so the motor is hanging in the middle.

Sweet work Luis, looking better every time I remember to look at it. I see you also got thread rated by the same "dude" that keeps giving people one star when they have the coolest builds. I gave you a 5 to help get rid of it but it takes a few more ratings to get the accurate rating back up.

hi guys i cant see any of the picks it just says "photo has been deleted or moved", is it the same for everybody else?
im really interested in doing a tomb raider 110 crew cab pickup but seeing the picks of the disco makes me want one of those now where would i get one im going to put it on the new tamiya cr01 ,thats another question there's several options for the body or tho im not really going to use it and the price is different from reading various adverts ie the jeep is about 345 the uinmog is 330 and the landcruiser is the cheapest am i safe in thinking that the reason for the extra cost is for a part build service on the jeep and extra detail on the body i could really do with the advice and or any tips on the possible project with the 110 i was planning on using 2 bodies of the geland defender 90 and 110 and just cut them up should be quite fun :)
