View Full Version : drive shaft twisting?

I twisted my rear driveshaft, and exploded a second.
I think the plastic used might be to hard?
I've run more than a dozen packs with an axial ax10 shaft in the rear. Working great.
Traxxas stampede shafts, and the metal yokes fit nicely. You will have to shorten for your application however.

Traxxas jato shafts can be modified to fit.

Axial's AX10 scorpian can easily be made to fit. New they cost a bit more than the traxxas stampede mentioned above but you might be able to pick some up cheap from a crawler guy who upgraded.

Think without a slipper the shafts are the weak point so if this can help.

Never mind, just saw you listed all that on your pic page.
What motor, speedo, batt combo are you using? I have bashed the bleep out of mine and have been lucky that my only issue was retightening my bead locks to keep the tires from slipping.

I broke the yoke running the silvercan and 6 cell
However I normally have a novak goat crawler brushless, 6 or 7 cells and use a 18m pinion from robinson racing.

The plastic may be too soft, hence the twisting. I believe RC4WD is going out with punisher drive shafts (or something of that sort).

If you have the money you can get some RC4WD Punisher shafts for the CR-01:

I run a Novak Goat 18.5 System with the stock pinion and haven't had any trouble with my stock shafts in my CR01 yet but i only have 3-4 hours on them so it may be to early to tell with mine. I have a set of the Punishers on my new RC4wd Trailfinder chassis and they are super beefy solid steel and very heavy so I suspect they would work great in the CR01 too

Will Axial shafts fit unmodified both front and rear? If so then I think the best choice would be the new MIP shafts for the Axial, though I'll probably just modify a set of Stampede shafts for my CR01.

We wound up twisting both shafts on my brother's CR01 today. Only on the second pack and the front twisted nearly 90 degrees. That was after swapping my Axial wheels onto it. I guess the extra weight in the wheels were too much for those weak shafts. I think they would have held up longer with the stock wheels and no weights but....

I'm working on my first Rc truck. I was planning to just build the kit as is but then decided to upgrade the motor to a Novak 55T based on local hobby shop reccomendation. I found this forum because my axels were not smooth and I thought I did something wrong. Anyway, after reading some of the stuff on the drive shafts, I'm thinking of going ahead and upgrading while it's easy to do. Here are 3 I found specifically for the CR-01. I'm leaning toward the 3Racing for price reasons. Does anyone have first hand knowledge good or bad on any of these 3? Are there more that are specifically for the CR-01? Is the weight/wheels that are causing the stock drive shafts to twist or a motor with more torque than stock or both? Or...

Hello and congrats on your first crawler. If your driveshafts bind at full droop, the shafts you listed do nothing to adress that. What you need are CVD (Constant Velocity Drive) type shafts. There are 2 different manufacturers of this type. First up is Tamiya. They have the 85mm Steel Prop Shaft - Carbon http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=54112 and the 95mm Steel Prop Shaft - Carbon http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=54113 You will need one of each to do the front and rear. These are Tamiya Hop-Up option parts for the CR-01. Second is Junfac. Junfac SUS303 Universal Shaft (2) http://www.junfac.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=27&products_id=253 is a complete set ( front and rear ) for the CR-01. These are made of stainless steel, which can be quite heavy. Hope this helps in your search for higher performance drivetrain components for your new CR-01 crawler.:Tamiya1::Tamiya1::Tamiya1:
