I wanted to build a smaller version of a Toyota HDJ80 like the one I had because, I get sentimental about my real 1:1 cars after selling them.

The objective: My old HDJ80 in some off-road action (8 years ago)

A HDJ80 bodyshell crossed my path and just had to grab it.
It's already painted in blue (I would like it in white, like my car) but since this are a bite hard to find, I have to go with what I have.

The axels...

After receiving the body shell I placed on top of SDI Trail Doctor XL tyres and it looks like this... kind of a Artic Truck HDJ80.

After messing arround with different types of chassis I didn't had any ideas on how I was going to build this car.

The absence of patience to do this build, made me choose the easiest way out. So I recicled a brand new TLT-1 (wich I have bought to my youngest kid) and used it to finish this car.

Locked the axels differentials by placing one spider gear "in between" the other two and tightened the screw in the center differential, wich gives some LSD effect to the car. I had to buy longer dogbones because of the extended wheelbase... thought it would be difficult, but it wasn't. Also setup the suspension in drop because I didn't want the tyres rubbing the bodyshell.

With the bodyshell on top of things...

Not the most scalish car but I think it came out nicely.

The body shell sticks to the chassis with velcro because I didn't want to make holes in such a rare piece of lexan.

Good explanation on how you modified your TLT-1 to fit that body. I think that chassis and the way it's set-up fits the body very well. Very professional looking, workman like rig.:Tamiya1:

Can see the mount I improvised to hold the bodyshell at the rear end while the bonet sits right on top of the front end of the chassis.

Also tweeked the suspension a little so I could have more "twist"

Everything on there looks great until the picture with the stick pack zip tied to the upper links. 2/3 A cells would have done your rig more justice. Just an observation. Just seems a little large.:p

It is big, yes... but it's well hidden under the bodyshell

The 0mm HPI rims will narrow the track width more. Otherwise, it looks great! I'm not sure if I've ever seen one of those bodies.

The body is from a old Kyosho model (don't know wich one) but seems to be quite rare this days. I've read on RCC that a body like this can be very expensive... I was lucky to find this one and it just costed me 50USD.

Anyway it looks like a 1/12 scale body beacuse it only has arround 10'' of wheelbase.

Good to see the TLT chassis getting some love!

Great body, not a big fan of the Landcruiser in general but the simple shape of this one looks good as an RC.

Have to agree on narrowing the track, also.
