Just a idea but u might want to build some scale parts such as roof rack, whinch bumper, tire rack ect. to give it that extra scale look. ther are some good examples at rcjeeps.com check it out and see what u think any way keep it up.NICE

Not a problem, I like hearing other ideas, I might try some of the larger 1.9's such as Proline's Flatiron or Rc4wd's Rock crushers. I tried some other 1.9s and they just looked unscale.I went with (I believe) the smallest 2.2, the HPI Geolander.

Nice Wrangler! Nice yellow paint with just the right amount of black. The wheel base looks to be correct with the wheels centered in the wells. Nicely done. I'm looking at that front bumper and it says to me, "place winch here."
jeffro
05-29-2009, 11:27 AM
Thank you Arco, Just don't look too close at the paint though, its not the greatest. I had the same thought about a winch. I have one that I was gonna put on my Cr-01 Wrangler (a different one) tha has a Proline Western bumper on it. Now Im not so sure. Maybe I will just pick up another one

You're welcome. That body deserves a real winch. The one by 3 Racing is the one everybody is using.:link:http://www.shop.rpphobby.com/product.sc?categoryId=61&productId=1350
It can be manualy or remotely operated. You need a 4ch. remote though. I've got 2 of them and they are extremely scale looking.
The paint looks good from my house. You could wet-sand and hand buff it straight. Be careful on all your edges or you'll burn through. I mask the edges and only sand the big flat panels. The compound will take care of the rest.

Hi, I'm new here and this is my first post.
Love the Jeep you have there. The color really is nice. With that long of a W/B how does it do on the trail?

Glad to have u on here BMH79, that color of a Jeep is my favorite also, as for the trail, I really really like the longer WB
And to TubbyT and hdmm and Wyoming, thank you guys, very much. I appreciate it.
I am a St Louis Blues fan, but I am for the Pens, Go Pens.
I used to see those on the shelf in different stores several years back, I always wanted one just for the body but couldn't justify the money just to throw the chassis away, but I finally gave in. (now the dog plays with them). I finally did my Jeep, Now I have a Cr-01 Wrangler to finish and a CC-01 to get started on. Not sure you ever really finish one, you just keep changing or adding to them. Fun stuff
I did learn one thing, a light bulb puts out more heat than you think, I would like to find someone who has a removable top for that particular Jeep body that they don't need or want.

I got burnt out on building for a liitle bit, so I finally went and found a place kinda close by, its really rough terrain though.
The Jeep did really well, but I designed a flaw into that caused me some difficulties and I also tore up one of the rear plastic hexes, I had to run back into town and put on the aluminum ones I had picked up a week earlier,it so it should do a lot better next time out there. Now, I just need a video camera.

Thank you, I thought so too. I borrowed them off of the Hilux. As far as "topless" thats my fault, I sorta melted the top. :o
I had a bunch of scale stuff in the back of the jeep, but I took them out. I lost a piece down in a crevice, (never to be seen again) luckily I had decided to take them out before I started.

I cut the chassis in half, them I added some aluminum "c" channel to extend the chassis. At the moment I forget how long it is. I really like how it performs with the longer wheelbase, I also raised the tranny on the chassis, so I've gained some ground clearance.

Its still very rigid, I really like this longer chassis, and that CR-01 tranny is so quiet and efficient, when its built correct, it just has a slight purrrrr.
I wish I could talk somebody out of their leftover stock cr-01 frame rails, I'd do it again.

yes I did make longer links, I just measured them. Couldn't find my metric ruler. :D
lower front links = 3 3/8 "
upper front links = 3 "
lower rear links = 2 3/4 "
upper rear links = 2 11/16"

Not a problem, maybe you could stuff some HPI Geolanders under it. They're a 2.2 tire but one of the shortest, I think. :)
That what these first tires were on the yellow jeep. The green one is runnin 1.9 Flat Irons. Just for reference.

Last weekend my Grandsons were here, 2 an 3, so I let the oldest one play with it in the backyard, and he didn't do bad, other then cover the tires with doggie landmines and splatter the axles.
The crew had to get things ready
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2757/4122772859_e4d46411d7.jpg
I think he has the same expression on his face just like some of the pro's I've seen.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2621/4122749477_c25ac1dd44.jpg
Anyway, I needed to fix a few things on it. When I built it, I messed up on the length of the rear driveshaft, so I fixed that, with new parts.
I opened up the fenderwells a bit, and made new steering linkage out of some aluminum stock I have, so its a little meatier.
And the tires were slipping on my cheapy beadlocks, but I don't think they will anymore,
My fingers are still sore after taking out 72 screws and then putting them back.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2745/4122789265_fb54ca21eb.jpg
I took both rearends apart and cleaned and relubed after soaking them a while back in all the water, just a little rust on the outer bearings. Even though I had air holes in the tires themselves, te foams were drenched
And I finally have a driver, it kind looks my son.

I've had several people over the past 6 months wanting a better idea of what I did or used to extend my CR-01 chassis on this jeep, so here goes.
I used to build RC planes, and the wings require lots of sanding, and its generally a large area.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2562/3930481784_f784bfc8ae.jpg
So, bar sanders are great, and come in various lengths, and are aluminum, I have 3 that are 11" and each one usually has a different grit sandpaper. And one that used to be somewhere around 22'' I think. (not now) :D
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2770/4231976574_285b8a21a1.jpg
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4010/4231975778_d602304237.jpg
I made the extenders 5.75 inches with .75 inches as the overlap at each end. And this is what it looks like in place, after a little forming with a ballpeen hammer and a small vise

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3633/3597985493_6898a5930c_b.jpg
The bar sanders came from Tower Hobbies, I never used the 22", thats why it met its end and became part of my jeep.

Hope that helps, it was a very inexpensive mod, and I love the way this jeep handles.

And the Flat irons hes running right now, are those 1.9s or 2.2s?
The wheelbase on mine is 13 inches and maybe a hair or 2 longer, and I'm using 2.2 flat irons on the Rubi
EDIT = also, the beadlocks I'm using are inexpensive, (3Racing, I think, plus I stripped the weird looking orange from the rings and the chrome plating off of the wheels.)
I really like the looks of them, but they don't work very well after they get wet, so I SHOO GOOED the tires to the rims before I did the beadlocks
