I have been looking for these old pics for awhile, I have moved 4 times since 1990, so they were so safe, I couldn't find them. I hope you all don't mind seeing my original clod buster I bought for myself Christmas of "89", I was 30 at the time.

At some point I decided it needed a change, (yes, even then) :) It was nicknamed "Monster Mash" :D

Monster trucks at the time were becoming really popular

Anyway its long gone, At the time, I was getting into dirt oval racing, heavily and needed money for "hot" stock motors and scr and sce battery packs, yeehaw.. :D

The kid that got it promptly drove it down a flight of stairs. It then became a Gravedigger clod

The End

Hope you guys and girls liked the old show.. :)

Dude, that was one good looking Clod! You did a nice job painting and detailing it. A Sledgehammer too...I have one of those sitting in the basement. Did yours seem underpowered if you remember? Ahh, I love the old school pics.

Thank you Blazer, I tried, at the time, I thought it was the neatest thing since sliced bread came along. :) The sledgehammer was underpowered, so I picked up a Trinity Monster Mash motor (yup, thats where the nickname for clod came from :D ) then she rocked and rolled. I still have the motor.

I later bought a Blackfoot body and turned the sledge into a hardbody. I filled all the holes (that was my first), and painted it white.. Another guy at work wanted it really bad, so I sold it to him for his son.

Im glad you guys liked the old pictures, I watched that video on utube yesterday, I think that is what inspired me to dig out the pic's

sweet... :jaw: Even has the chevy logo on the grille

If I recall correctly there WAS a monster truck called monster mash back in the day... i think it was even yellow like the second gen of your clod.

There was a purple "bullhead" called super pete in real life too.

I always wanted to get a beavis and butthead picture and make a Tamiya Butthead :D

I believe I have come full circle with my RC addiction, hobby, spending money,, :D A new Clod Buster, I will have to look on wikipedia to find out when these were produced (without the bowtie or logo on the tailgate, unless somebody knows all the stats on the clods early years.

I found this on ebay, it was only there for a little while, I just about had a heart attack when I saw it. No, it doesn't have the bowtie in the grill or the logo on the tailgate, but it has the almost correct grill, and that can be easily fixed. Becauce it wasn't wrapped in plastic still, and didn't have the bowtie and logo, it was $600.00's cheaper, it was cheaper then a new Super Clod from Tower Hobbies, plus it had free shipping...:)

One question for anybody, are those old batteries collectible or something, I don't know if any of it works yet.

I felt like it was 1990 all over again, waiting for that big brown UPS truck to bring my new clod buster. :common001:

The Tamiya Clod Buster is a 1/10-scale radio controlled monster truck was released September 21, 1987 by the Tamiya Corporation. I think they changed the grille and tailgate around 1990??? In February, 2004 the original Clod Buster and Bullhead were discontinued. I bought one just like the one pictured NIB in Jan. 2003 for around $200.00 at the LHS. Those batteries are collectable and go for good money on e*bay, especially in the SRB listings.

Not sure, but maybe the grille and tailgate parts or sprues have a date molded on them. My manual says copyright 1987, but in the picture on the cover, the Chevy emblem has been pasted over and is missing. The illustration inside of the grille has no badge either.

Some info and the original manual can be found here....

Thank you Arco. Now my next question, how do I figure out which year.(And its only because of the knowledge, I will never sell this, I'm gonna try and talk myself into building it.) The manual says 87, and I know thats not right, and there is an insert with no dates other then in the lower lefthand corner it says " 0392 Printed in Japan " Its called the "CLOD BUSTER After Market Service Card" with part numbers...and the lower half is "spare parts and Hop up options" Otherwise, I see no date anywhere

Then I look at the Futaba 4 channel and batteries, I would say early ninties, if thats the radio that was intended for it. Enough rambling, any thoughts Arco or anybody..

Mine has the bowtie on the grill of the one on the front of the box, I guess you can see that

I paid exactly 200 dollars for everything, plus free s\h :)

I was just checking that out. its ITEM 5865, and mine is 58065. Im just gonna have to guess its from the early 90's, only because of the radio.

I was going to use the body on that Sassy Chassis, but now I'm not sure, I will have to give it some thought. As you can tell, I have a place in my heart for all clod busters, if I had the extra 800 on hand, I would buy that one on ebay that keeps popping up. ( I spend to much time there anymore):D

I still have the album,(plus many more) but the RCCA magazine, and many of the 1st issues were left behind in the divorce, and I believe they were thrown away.

I have the RCCA of the one where they build the clod... I THINK a clodzilla 2 or 3 with the JPS aluminum gearboxes and stuff.... think the cost was well over $1000 :omg:

Its at my parents house though, so its not easily referenced :(
