Here's my next project. Not sure where this one is gonna end up going. Starting here with a used TXT-1 that's in good shape with a few hop-ups. I have an EVX speedo for it.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2488/3765928747_bf251bedb2_b_d.jpg

14 cell /16.8 volt EVX speedo and two 27 turn Mabuchi silvercan motors.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3471/3765928759_a012abae8a_b_d.jpg

The axles came with ACER ball bearings, RC4WD billet spools, and RC4WD wheel wideners.

That would be mostly right, I just didn't know what to do with it build wise. It was an impulse at the time. I tried this body, but it just didn't do it for me.

The High-Lift body looked good on there.:D Looks like a meaner Juggernaught.
Thank's Jeff, I'm a gonna max her out and make it a nice ride. Already completed the first mod.:)

The stock electronics tray uses a mechanical speed control, servo, receiver battery, and resistor. Deleting all of that in favor of an EVX, so I took a dremel to the stock tray.

Next, I CA'ed some styrene diamond plate to the now smoothed top and filled all the gaps with body putty.

Its lookin good Jay. See, I knew it wanted to move, it didn't like me, it tried to bite me :D

Are you reading up on the release of the Jugg, in 99 :)

Arcocustom
07-29-2009, 07:30 AM
Yeah, thanks for that book. In that article it shows the Jugg with Mabuchi motors. I happen to have a couple, so I'm swapping out the clunky Johnson motors.

The stock plastic shocks leave alot to be desired. I have some aluminium OFNA 1/8th scale buggy shocks I'm gonna utilize. They have Trinity T-Maxx extra heavy springs.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2601/3769085530_6ed67ea99f_b_d.jpg

Probably gonna play with different weight shock oils to tame the torque steer.:)

Yup, the EVX on 14 cells is simply awesome. Wakes a TXT right on up.:)

MOTORS

2 brand new Mabuchi 27turn silvercans. I use a 4 cell battery to break-in the brushes and bushings.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2673/3769210397_620fc296b7_b_d.jpg

To make it happen faster and reduce heat, I ran them underwaterfor 2 minutes, until the water became discolered.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2622/3769210401_c5701608cf_b_d.jpg

To help things run cooler, I'm using Trinity butt syncs, with a little heat sync compound.

Steering modifications

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3229/3772278094_f95b852f82_b_d.jpg

Used 3mm I.D. carbon fiber tubing to "sleeve" the stock 3mm steering links.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3482/3772278098_c6a80f5cc8_b_d.jpg

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3573/3772278100_516cfb6314_b_d.jpg

Made a carbon fiber plate that bolts to the rear servo mount and bolted the steering arm to it, locking out the rear steering.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2550/3772278104_9ea823f653_b_d.jpg

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3501/3772278112_3cf93023d0_b_d.jpg

Cut the steering stops off of the front steering hubs to increase the steering throw.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2577/3772278162_913ddd88a2_b_d.jpg

"Sleeved" the front links, installed a servo and a heavy duty servo saver.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2497/3771475007_eb9f0866c5_b_d.jpg

Bolted on some Jugg wheels.

Excellent build - those Juggernaut tires really are Tamiya's best and should be with every "monster". I've got two sets waiting for "projects" myself :). Anyway, great truck - almost looks like a 1:1 monster .

Thank you Siggy. Been trying to find a Jugg 1 or Jugg 2 body for it. Seen a couple on old evilbay, but the bidding was out-of-control. This one has a ways to go... all I have is a chassis, trans, and the body mounts. Never had a NIB Juggernaugt before. Built my first one peice by peice too.

Believe it or not, it is much easier to find a Blazer and Hilux4x4 parts compared to a Juggernaut. I still got my Jug from over 10 years ago kept in storage. I got the kit as a break from studies, when I was taking up my Ph D in Tokyo. You would not believe that the only tool I had to put it all together was a swiss knife.

If I come across a bodyset, I'll let you know, for sure.:thumb:

Thanks Siggy. I believe it. The old Jugg parts are getting pretty rare. Complete body sets go for crazy money. I can find the shell pretty easy, it is the grille and front bumper that are super rare. That parts tree is really what I an after.

Dr. Siggy... :) 10 years ago that thing was brand-spanky new. I looked at one around that time at the LHS and almost bought it until they told me about the diffs and trans problems. I waited and bought a TXT-1 instead. That kit I looked at has doubled in value since then.

Swiss army knife is tough going... but totally possible. I built my TXT on the tailgate of my truck. :)

I agree, very hard to find the grille even for the F350 High Lift.

I think I paid no more than 13500yen - about US$100 for the whole, Kit.

Wow, assembled on the tailgate of your truck! Probably the biggest challenge was how not to loose screws/nuts/spacers especially the very tiny e-clips. :)

100 bucks is super cheap.

I laid it all out on a beach towel. It kept anything from bouncing away. :D It was a challenge though.

Yeah, I would go for the High-Lift version but you can't find it in-stock anywhere. A lot of people are sawing them up I reckon... :bangin:

Those were the days when Tokyo was the RC Paradise. The expensive stuff were the 414X, X-Ray, VETEQ, Losi, Associated, and Shumacher buggies, FG Cars and Trucks. Everything else was cheap, Forex was was 135yen to $1.

A month ago I was looking for spares for my F350 Highlift, especially the grille/bumper/mirror. I was surprised that these were all sold-out and now difficult to get.

DOH!! I scored a complete NIB jugg2 body a few months ago for $70 and dumb me, I ended up trading it for a set of TLT axles. The guy I traded it to planned to hack it up for a 4door F350 build. :(

That is unfortunate. The last complete NIB Jugg body on the bay sold for over 150 bucks. Sawing it up brings a tear to my eye... :(

Thanks Damon. Yes, it is a 4130 Chrome Moly Steel tubular chassis made by New Era. The color was a special order. They powdered coated it Gloss Black for me. It took an extra week for them to ship, but the shipping was free. I have another one I bought in 2003 that is Blue...

Was just purusing this thread and couldn't agree more, i can't tell you how many Axials I saw with Tamiya bodies at scale nats last year...i don't get it so I bought a RTR Axial Scx10 and had it for a month or so to see what it was but sold on the bay after that, it worked fine but just like all the Traxxas stuff I've also had and sold shortly after it just felt so mass market and sterile with no character at all the kind of toy someone gets because its the in thing but then loses interest in later and throws away lol! but I do have some Axial parts in my builds, I love their driveshafts and tranny and 55t can motors lol so I'm not bashing them just explaining why I don't connect with them like I do a Tamiya

Really liking your build direction Jay, those New Era frames are awesome.
