Get some piano wire and bend 3 or 4 pieces to shape, drill holes just big enough to fit the wire evenly spaced along either side of the bed, right at the edge where it goes down to the side. Make the them long enough to go to the bottom of the bed, then Shoe Goo them in place and stitch up a cover.

No, it is safe on the paint. I don't know what something similar would be in Europe, perhaps a member here might know.

Check this thread out here. I asked on Scale4x4 being they have quite a few members in Euroland and figure one could help.

im still waiting for my body to arrive. im going to make some tubeframe for the cover this week at work. and my girlfriend wil make me some cover for it.:yahoo:
And for the roofrack i am going to order the one from proline. but im not sure about paint on the inside or outside i think on the inside will look to shiny for a army truck.
ill post some pics once i get started.
and i found some glue that might work its suitable for polycarbonat and in the hobbyshop the said it won't have effect on the paint i asked for shoegoo put he didn't know it.

I would paint it on the inside to protect the paint from the rocks, just paint the black first, then brown, then olive green if you go with the inside. I have a proline roof rack on my pajero with camo paint and I am also getting a cr01 in the mail this week, can't wait!

hey guys i was thinking about the tube frame for the cover wanted to make it of steel but it will be very top heavy then. i never worked with styrene but would that be an option i don't know if it will be strong enough to take some hits when it rolls over?

You could use some thin metal brake line tube, it is hollow so it will be light but strong enough for rollovers.

Piano wire comes in various diameters and even the thinest wire is super tough. They mainly use the stuff for landing gear on airplanes, so it won't be as heavy as you think. ;)

It looks great, but that styrene won't last long, in either side scrapes or roll overs it'll break apart at the joints are rip away from the body. You should use piano wire as stated before if you want something that will last and keep it's shape. At the least though you should try to screw it together at the joints.

I have to agree with R/C Modz. I have not been a big fan of the unimog cr-01 kit either but you have come up with a very cool concept. Now I don't think my garage would be complete without one.:thumb:
