I have seen some radio kits that came with servos and a speed control i was wondering if one of these would work for this truck and if so which one. If they do not make something like this could someone tell me all of the components I will need to buy.

There are a lot of options when it comes to TA chassis. Very versatile chassis, from crawler to scaler to touring to drift to rally to the original SC truck. :)

Anyhow, typed some this info up for a question on another thread, and figured I'd post it here as well.

Arm widths pin to pin:
TA01/TA02/FF01 front arms are 35mm. Hummer arms are also 35mm

TA02w (F150) front arms are for some reason 30mm

Rear arms are 38mm for all the TA'a except the hummer - that one's 44. FF01 rear arms are 38mm as well, but have a lot more sweep to them.

You can mix and match arms and knuckles to get a bunch of different widths, and flipping the rear arms around can change the wheelbase dramatically. Then, there are 2 chassis lengths out there....lots of options. Few examples and chassis shots below:

TA01 arms, with wide knuckles. About 180mm wide to the outer bearings. This is the widest set-up.

TA02w with narrow knuckles - about 149mm to the outer bearings. Narrowest set-up.

Hummer arms with narrow knuckles - also about 149mm bearing to bearing. Longer arms, shorter knuckes. Same width overall as above, but better geometry. Not sure what the point of the short arm set-up on the TA02W is.

There's a middle set-up as well with TA01/TA02/FF01 arms and narrow knuckles. About 160mm wide.

Group shot for chassis view...
Left chassis is the long chassis from a Top Force. About the same as a long WB CC01 kit.
Center chassis is custom cut for a Mustang hardbody that had an odd WB.
Right chassis is a short chassis. This is a stock F150 kit but swapped to longer front arms and TA01 (narrow) knuckles. Maintains the width, but better overll geometry and handling.

Can even cut it way down to a 1/12 scale...this is for a Porsche hardbody that was as wide as a 1/10, but had a WB of about 220mm - mini territory.

Any TA questions or measurements, I'd be glad to help.

This is what's left of Betty...no more Touareg body here! Figured the Jeep was my semi-scale CR, so I could experiment with this one.

Shortened the suspension quite a bit, it's almost like an FOFF rig. Can still flex decent, even with the smaller shocks.

Sitting right at a 12" wheelbase

The body is tiny, I had to shorten the frame a bit on each end. Just lopped off a set of holes and trimmed up the radio tray to fit. Worked like a charm. It's sitting as low as possible - so low I had to clearance a hole for the fan ESC. What's interesting is it resonates in the body and has a very noticable whoosh to it as it runs. Pretty cool effect.

First time with an outrunner...works awesome! Not a lot of wheelspeed, but gobs of torque.

Just need to paint it up!

Anyone know much about the XV-01? I've seen the pro-chassis kit on Tamiya's web site & it's called a "crossover Vehicle", belt drive, 4WD "mulit terrain"

There is some other photos floating around & it appears to have rally tires & is being labeled as such.

I've been saving my pennies for a DF03ra datsun. just curious if anyone has thoughts as to how the belt drive would compare & the different motor mount location & if it would be worth waiting for over the DF03ra.

I'm wanting one for me and my three boys so the cost of the DF03ra out of the box w/ speed control & motor appealed. not to mention the datsun body & castrol toyota bodies are way cool.

Hi there,

I found this forum by chance and thought I would share my Pajero.

I made a few changes: wheels, tires, rear links, shocks, steering and some suspension parts...

Most important change: I swapped the motor for a tiny brushless outrunner. It's mated to a 4:1 gear box. ..oh and I cut the front box and added a skid plate and a winch (currently powered by a servo electronics).

Here's a pic of the chassis:

I made a few minor changes to the body. Cut the rear bumper and added some styrene to fill the gap and a dummy spare wheel attachment.

..and here's the body after painting:

..with all the lights on (and hazard flashers too):

Side and rear shot:

...and finally, two movies:

Light test:

***Light Test Video***

..and first 4x4 test (fast and slow climbing)..

***First Test***

Hope you like the car! I think the proportions are quite ok. The car is supposed to be more a scaler than a crawler..

Cheers

Pip
