Default Should I lock the differential or not??

I'm just building my first crawler a Tamiya CR-01. I got as far as building the diffs and during building its giving me the option to lock them. Seeing as it is not a 5 minute job to lock or unlock them , what is the best thing to do for crawling? Should I lock them or not as Im green when it comes to this?
    Thanks for any help.

    Question

Lock them bad boys. It will deliver power to all 4 wheels. Locked diffs are the hot set-up.

I even went as far as to buy a locked diff hop up part for front and rear

And make sure your diff housings are on the correct way as illistrated... I didnt and ended up with front wheels rotating forwards whilst back wheels where in reverse!

Enjoy the build, I know I did

I would say lock them too, but just so you know what happens when you do.

    Locked
    1. Power goes to all 4 wheels all the time
    2. You loose some turning radius
    3. Crawling performance is increased

    Unlocked
    1. Power goes to all 4 wheels, but if a wheel is stuck it will get no power which means in turn your stuck.
    2. Greater turning radius
    3. Bashing performance is increased

McFig's description makes the differences clear. It's not to difficult take the pin in and out after you've built it. Crawling calls for locked diffs. I only have one truck so sometimes I like to put the factory motor back in it for speed, unlock the diffs and do doghnuts in the drive way.

LOL I'm pretty sure the OP is long gone. He hasn't posted a thing since that first post to ask if he should lock his axles! haha
